The Opportunity:
Firefighting Technical Subject Matter Expert (SME) providing support to multiple US Navy/ MSC programs. You will design and validate designs for existing and to be built systems on various naval and marine vessels including aircraft carriers, combatants, amphibious, auxiliary, and specialized mission ships from ship concept, design, construction, life cycle, and fleet support. This will include fi refighting, fire detection, auxiliary, compressed air, hydraulics, and cooling systems that are necessary to maintain a ships functionality and mission. You will provide technical support on various engineering projects alone and as part of an engineering team primarily in support of the Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) and the Military Sealift Command (MSC).


Responsibilities:
• Provide expert guidance throughout all design stages, from preliminary to post-production, for MSC or Navy vessel auxiliary systems.
• Develop purchase specifications and detailed installation packages for auxiliary/firefighting systems.
• Design marine auxiliary and piping systems, reviewing and analyzing preliminary and functional design documentation.
• Contribute to specifications writing, design calculations, outfitting design, and marine drawing, adhering to drawing standards and best marine design practices.
• Update Selected Record Drawings (SRDs), conduct ship checks, and prepare technical work documents.
• Write test procedures, compile and evaluate design and test data, and prepare technical specifications.
• Research, plan, design, develop, modify, and evaluate Firefighting systems.
• Develop and oversee deliverables, conduct quality assurance reviews, and perform risk assessments.
• Apply in-depth knowledge of commercial standards, including ABS, NAVSEA OP-4, SOLAS, SNAME, CFR, ASTM, NVIC and NFPA.


Qualifications:
Required: 

  • Minimum of 3 - 10 years’ experience in in US Naval Ship Engineering Capacity.

  • Ability to obtain Secret level security clearance

  • Ability to work alone on individual projects with minimal supervision and with other Engineering Disciplines on a team environment.

  • Experience with US Navy and/or US commercial ship design standards

  • Experience with Military Sealift Command (MSC) marine engineering practices.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel and Power Point

  • BS Mechanical or Marine Engineering degree or equivalent experience

  • In lieu of degree, training and deployment from the US Navy/USCG or equivalent experience

  • AutoCAD experience: Ability to draft detailed multi -view drawings of systems, machinery spaces, systems, assemblies, and products.

  • US Citizen with ability to obtain a Security Clearance


Desired:

  • Ten years of experience performing as a key lead of a NAVSEA or MSC engineering team projects.

  • Master’s Degree in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related degree

  • Former Tech Warrant Holder for Navy/MSC
