Lead Motion Designer

HI! 👋

We’re Capsule—a venture-backed startup building AI-powered video tools for enterprise teams. We’re led by two serial founders who have built and scaled creative platforms for 100s of millions of people. We’ve backed by the same investors as Webflow, Figma, Slack, Flexport, OnDeck, Masterclass, Replit.

Capsule is the first video editing tool built exclusively for work, and we’re growing incredibly fast. Just a few months after leaving public beta, our video editor is already helping 100s of enterprises like HubSpot, ServiceNow, and Instacart create professional, on-brand videos at scale.

We are seeking a highly creative motion designer to join our team to create motion design systems for Capsule’s customers. In this role, you will work closely with our motion engineering team to create motion design systems that will be implemented in flexible code. This is a unique opportunity for a detail-oriented designer to help Capsule build the new category of video design systems.

  • Define motion parameters (like easing curves, durations, and sequential relationships) that will be translated into our technical framework

  • Research and explore innovative animation techniques and motion trends that can enhance our template library

  • Collaborate with engineers to implement the templates to spec

  • Provide creative direction and design guidance to other designers and engineers

  • Stay at the forefront of motion design trends, tools, and best practices

  • Thrive in our fast-paced startup environment while maintaining design excellence

  • Work collaboratively with engineers and other designers in our zero-ego culture

Requirements

  • 4+ years of professional motion design experience with a portfolio that demonstrates exceptional creativity and technical skill

  • Degree in Design, Animation, or related creative field

  • Strong foundation in design and animation fundamentals (typography, timing, easing, anticipation, follow-through)

  • Ability to develop cohesive motion design systems that demonstrate a range of motion styles

  • Experience translating design concepts into technical specifications for developers

  • Ability to communicate design decisions and provide constructive feedback

  • Highly creative with a refined aesthetic and attention to detail

The perks

  • Competitive compensation including salary and stock options

  • Comprehensive insurance benefits — medical, dental, vision, life

  • Generous paid time off

How to apply

  • Send an email with links to your work history

  • Record a video intro telling us about yourself (optional, but extra credit!)
