Civil Engineering Intern

Serve as a Civil Engineering Intern in the Bureau of Bridge Capital Design and Construction Movable Bridge group, The Civil Engineering Intern (CEI) will assist the Engineer-In-Charge (EIC), Project Manager (PM) and Director in overseeing and administrating the performance of the Total Design consultant contracts; and Construction Support Services (CSS) / Resident Engineering Inspection (REI) / Construction contracts. The CEI will assist in the review of design deliverables including contract plans (site, civil, structural, architectural, etc.), specifications for quality and technical accuracy; monitoring the quality of construction during the construction phase; assisting the EIC and PM in evaluating project timelines and adherence to contract schedule; performing budget related tasks such as reviewing and processing invoices, contract change orders, fund transfers, etc., to maintain project budget; evaluating performance and design and construction activities against contract scope and specifications; resolving engineering and administrative issues that may arise during the design and construction phases of a project; performing engineering calculations in support of design and construction work; actively participate and contribute to project meetings with various groups within DOT, other City, State, and Federal agencies, various project stakeholders, and consultants and contractors; providing document control, performing various tasks simultaneously, conducting research, and assisting in field visits when necessary and performing administrative duties as requested by management.
Preferred Skills
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Engineering Technology, Environmental Engineering or Environmental Science.
Ability to communicate effectively in verbal and written form.
Ability to work independently and team setting.
Openness to learn and perform various environmental and engineering disciplines related tasks
High proficiency in Microsoft Office Software (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.); Adobe Acrobat; researching on the internet
Proficiency using AutoCAD or MicroStation.
Possession of a Motor Vehicle Driver License valid in the State of New York.
Preference will be given to those who have passed the NCEES Fundamentals of Engineering Exam.
