YouthBuild participants, ages 16-24, become employable, productive citizens, working with them to set and achieve individualized development

Position: Case Manager (Youth Engagement)


The Case Manager Youth Engagement is responsible for providing pre- and post-employment case management services, social services navigation, coaching, and other supportive services to youth ages across all Eight Million Stories programming. 


Salary Range: $50,000-$60,000


Overview of Position The 8MSYB Case Manager provides support and resources to youth in need of support to the underserved population and addresses barriers to employment to include transportation, soft and hard skills development, access to critical resources such as housing and healthcare, and other social, cultural, and environmental conditions that impact a youth’s life. The Case Manager helps to identify areas of need and work with the individual to identify goals and develop plans to address these barriers (receive support services) to allow the individual to prepare to successfully transition into post-secondary or career pathways, post completion of the 8MSYB program. Furthermore, the Case Manager implements strategies to achieve the goals for the organization, mission, revises and sustains policies, procedures and programs. Typically works on projects and initiatives with cohorts that span 3 – 12 months.


The Case Manager reports to the YB Program Manager and exercises no supervision over other staff.


Additional Information This thirty-six month position is funded through a grant received from the Department of Labor.


Employment with Community Preschools is at will and employees will undergo 45- and 90-day check-ins during their 90-day probationary period.


Roles and Responsibilities 

  • Support initial intake and assessment with identifying areas of need and develop appropriate program plans to address needs. Needs for assistance may include but are not limited to transportation, employment, substance(s) abuse, mental health, child care, financial aid.
  • Develop, in conjunction with the youth, an individual development plan (IDP) that identifies area(s) of need, sets goals, and outlines a plan for achievement of goals.
  • Provide individualized case management services to youth and young adults based on individual needs and program plans. 
  • Provide skill development and job coaching services where necessary based on the needs of the individual served.
  • Clearly record individual progress through services and complete all documentation and reporting within established timeframes using the company provide software and data tracking systems (collecting and inputting data into the MIS system as required: monthly, quarterly and/or annually.
  • Deliver services as outlined in the Statement of Work (SOW). 
  • Comply with organization policies, procedures, contractual guidelines, safety and security regulations and rules protecting participant confidentiality.
  • Conduct outreach efforts to explain the available services to larger communities.
  • Attending all internal and external meetings and training as required.
  • Problem Solving: Light supervision; works independently. Periodic review of work by manager or senior coworker. Solves problems of moderate to advanced complexity; able to identify root cause, interpret data and resolve issues.
  • Technical Skill: Understands and applies professional principles and skills within area of specialization to modify processes to resolve situations.
  • Community Engagement: Champions 8MSYB community engagement initiatives and serves as an ambassador for the program in the greater community.
  • Responsible for completing other duties/responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements

  • Strong commitment to youth/adult leadership and empowerment and ability to work sensitively and effectively with young adults (16-24).
  • Two years of college education or experience equivalency. A minimum of three years of experience providing individual counseling and/or coaching to diverse youth and young adults seeking employment and advancement in their careers; preferably youth considered at-risk. 
  • Experience using various career explorations tools and assessments as well as experience interpreting local labor market information.
  • Experience in one or more of the following: Social Services, Education, Nonprofit Management, Community Leadership and Development, Communications, Government sectors, or a related field.
  • Knowledge of job training methods, techniques, and principles preferred (Bonus if familiar with YouthBuild USA program).
  • Experience with creating, implementing, and maintaining IDPs (or similar).
  • Demonstrated commitment to accountability, measuring outcomes and a results-oriented culture. 
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Word) and ability to learn and effectively use various Workforce Development Information systems.
  • Bilingual (English: Spanish) or Multi-lingual skills highly preferred
  • Ability to interact in a positive, motivational and supportive manner, providing guidance to job seekers with very diverse backgrounds, including at-risk youth, GED/non-high school graduates, and persons with disabilities.
  • Able to work flexible hours and travel to multiple work locations as needed.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
