Role: Team Manager, Data Warehouse

The Team Manager, Data Warehouse and BI Development and Support is responsible for managing a team of DW software developers and is accountable for the development and support of Data Warehouse, Data Engineering applications for Fidelity Investments Canada. The successful candidate will have a passion for technology and be able to provide and articulate innovative ideas for its application in servicing Fidelity Investments Canada’s business units.

They will analyze business requirements, plan, design, and implement moderate to highly complex technology-enabled innovations and divide and prioritize engineering decisions across their team members. With advanced knowledge of a number of software products and latest methodologies including (Snowflake, Oracle, Informatica IICS and AWS), they are well-equipped for the role.

They will oversee departmental budgets, plan resources, develop technical strategy, maintain systems, and act as the business liaison in the Data Warehouse domain. Work closely with the development managers, the QA team, the architecture team and business partners to formulate the overall strategy in order to meet the business goals and objectives.

1.Data Warehouse strategy

  • Responsible for working collaboratively with business partners to develop an annual plan for the DW.
  • Annual Plan updated and presented to Manager/Director/VP of Development.
  • Execution of projects as per annual plan
  • Education of internal partners on evolving technologies, measured by presentations done as new technologies arise.

2 Data Warehouse application support.

  • Effectively manages and prioritizes multiple competing projects & initiatives.
  • Acts as the IS owner for all DW related projects and reviews projects to ensure compliance to Fidelity Canada’s standards and best practices.
  • Ensures proper information is provided and effectively communicated to staff with a clear message.
  • Acts as a point of escalation for all platform related issues (24x7) and maintains application service levels.
  • Directs staff in the areas of automation, standardization and second level problem determination and analysis.
  • Works closely with Architecture team, takes the lead role in establishing DW technical strategy and standards.
  • Delivers products and services that follow the established technology guidelines and quality standards.

3. Budgeting/Forecasting

  • Prepares/tracks department budget.
  • Forecasts and plans capacity for environmental growth.
  • Resolves business needs and plans for appropriate staffing levels.

4. Coaches, mentors and leads a team of Software Developers

  • Communicate overall business objectives and our progress against each.
  • Establish clear, documented goals with each employee at the start of the year.
  • Offer ongoing coaching and feedback on performance that helps employees understand strengths and areas for improvement
  • Provide feedback through a formal, written bonus review at least once a year
  • Support employees in building actionable development plans
  • Schedule regular team & one on one meeting’s with staff

Required Expertise:

  • Minimum 5 years' work experience in technology, preferably in the financial services industry
  • 4 years University degree in computer engineering or computer science or equivalent experience.
  • Experience in managing, leading and mentoring a team of developers
  • Good interpersonal, communication and presentation skills
  • Excellent relationship management skills
  • Ability to efficiently and effectively lead and prioritize and allocate resources for multiple challenging initiatives
  • Ability to communicate technical ideas to non-technical stakeholders
  • Good knowledge of agile, waterfall and code development practices
  • Strong problem-solving abilities.
  • Experience with Informatica IICS, Snowflake, Oracle, AWS, Data Warehousing and Data Engineering

  • Experience in System Architecture and Design
  • Data Science practices and programming language
  • Knowledge of Machine Learning and AI
