Cloud Infrastructure Engineer I/II (Entry Level)

Overview

General Dynamics Electric Boat, the nation's premier designer and builder of nuclear submarines, is seeking an entry level Cloud Engineer to join the Information Technology department. The IT team is experiencing an exciting transformation as we move into the cloud. The Cloud Engineer will help drive the successful implementation of secure, scalable, and high-performing cloud environments.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Design, deploy, and manage cloud infrastructure solutions on both Azure and OCI platforms
  • Develop and implement cloud governance strategies, ensuring compliance with relevant standards and regulations
  • Support cloud security and compliance initiatives.
  • Document processes and configurations for knowledge sharing
  • Monitor cloud infrastructure and report issues or anomalies
  • Assist in cloud environment provisioning and maintenance
  • Stay updated on emerging technologies and industry trends in cloud computing, DevOps, and software development.
  • Optimize cloud resources to ensure cost-effectiveness and scalability

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor of Science degree or higher in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, or related technical degree.
  • 1 - 4 years of experience in cloud engineering, DevSecOps, IT infrastructure or similar experience.

Preferred:

  • Certifications such as Azure Developer Associate, DevOps Engineer
  • Experience with one or more cloud platforms (Azure GovCloud, and OCI)
  • Previous involvement in migrating workloads to Azure.
  • Experience in Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) tools (e.g., Terraform, Ansible) and cloud management practices
  • Experience in automated CI/CD deployments using industry standards with tools like GitLab Runners
  • Proficiency in serverless architecture and Azure Services (e.g., Azure Virtual Machines, Azure Storage, Azure Networking)

Skills

  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Ability to manage and prioritize ticket-based workload along with incoming side requests
  • Creating professional documentation and diagrams for external consumption
  • Strong understanding of different deployment resource types and when to deploy each type (IaaS, PaaS, SaaS)
  • Ability to consult with customers in the extraction of technical requirements from business objectives
  • Experience with JIRA Software and Confluence
