Manufacturing Engineer

Optimize, build, and deliver the Future of Ocean Autonomy.

At Hefring Engineering, we build advanced autonomous ocean vehicles designed to perform in some of the most demanding marine environments in the world. We’re looking for a Manufacturing Engineer who enjoys being close to the product—someone who’s comfortable on the floor, solving problems, testing components, and helping ensure every Oceanscout Glider meets the highest standards before it goes out the door.

In this role, you’ll work directly with our production team to support day-to-day manufacturing—from refining build steps and running component tests to troubleshooting inefficiencies and inspecting incoming parts. You’ll be part of a tight-knit, mission-driven team where precision matters and every detail counts.

If you're the kind of engineer who likes rolling up your sleeves, staying close to the hardware, and taking pride in getting things built right, this is a great opportunity to contribute to a product with real-world impact.

Key Responsibilities

  • Execute robust manufacturing processes for the Oceanscout Glider.
  • Program and test vehicle components
  • Optimize production workflow and efficiencies.
  • Identify and address production bottlenecks and inefficiencies to enhance productivity.
  • Work with procurement manager, suppliers and vendors to source materials and components, inspect deliverables, provide feedback, and rate vendors.
  • Adhere to quality control protocols, monitor production outputs, and ensure compliance with engineering specifications and standards.
  • Support the continuous improvement initiatives across production, including Lean manufacturing principles and Six Sigma methodologies.
  • Stay up to date on industry trends and advancements in production techniques that can be applied to our operations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in manufacturing within the marine, aerospace, or similar industry.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, production methods, and quality assurance practices.
  • Experience with CAD and PLM software; familiarity with Onshape is a preferred.
  • Experience with terminal programs using command line interfaces such as puTTY, Powershell, Terminal (Mac), LinuxShell
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt quickly to changes in priorities.
  • US Citizenship is mandatory due to export control restrictions.
  • Opportunity to work on groundbreaking technology in a rapidly growing industry.
  • A collaborative, innovative, and inclusive work environment.
  • Paid vacation, holidays, and sick leave.
  • Health, vision, dental and life insurance benefits paid 100% for full time employees.
  • 401k with 5% matching company contribution.
  • Professional development and career growth opportunities.
  • The chance to contribute to sustainable marine exploration efforts.
