We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Product Development Engineer for a temporary role leading technical projects in our water filtration division. This position is ideal for a results-driven professional who can quickly ramp up, take ownership of complex projects, and lead high-performing teams through structured product development processes.

This role places a strong emphasis on project management using a Stage-Gate system, as well as cross-functional team leadership. The ideal candidate will bring strong technical judgment, excellent communication skills, and a proven ability to drive projects to completion under tight deadlines.

  • Lead Stage-Gate product development projects from concept through launch, ensuring timeline, cost, and quality targets are met
  • Direct and influence cross-functional teams (including Operations, Process Engineering, Quality, R&D, Finance, and Sales) without direct authority
  • Interact extensively with customers, providing project updates, managing expectations, and representing the technical side of the business
  • Develop and maintain detailed project plans, facilitate team meetings, and proactively identify and mitigate risks
  • Hold teams accountable to project goals and resolve cross-departmental roadblocks
  • Apply engineering fundamentals to support design discussions and technical decisions
  • Use CAD tools (any platform) for design review or basic modeling as needed
  • Drive adoption of industry-standard risk management tools such as FMEAs, control plans, and LEAN methodologies to enhance design robustness and manufacturability
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure regulatory, quality, and compliance needs are addressed

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Chemical, or related)
  • 5+ years of experience in product development, with a strong emphasis on project leadership and cross-functional execution
  • Demonstrated experience with the Stage-Gate development process
  • Strong customer management skills—must be comfortable interfacing directly with customers and representing engineering deliverables
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational abilities
  • Ability to work full-time on-site in West Haven, CT throughout the assignment

Nice to Have

  • Familiarity with CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Creo, AutoCAD)
  • Experience working in regulated industries or with products that require third-party certification or regulatory approvals (e.g., NSF, UL, FDA)
  • Knowledge of risk management tools such as FMEAs, control plans, or LEAN processes
  • Experience with filtration technologies or products
