Assistant Men's Soccer Coach

The Assistant Men’s Soccer Coach reports to and will assist the Head Men’s Soccer Coach in directing all activities of the men’s soccer program within NCAA, RMAC and Colorado School of Mines policies, guidelines, and procedures. The Assistant Men’s Soccer Coach is responsible for supporting the athletic and academic development of student-athletes while focusing on student-athlete welfare.

This position works primarily on campus in Golden, Colorado. In-state and out-of-state travel are required for this position.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Coaching

  • Assist the head coach in the coaching, training and decision making of the men’s soccer team; developing and conducting all in-season and out-of-season sessions throughout the year as deemed necessary and appropriate.
  • Aid the head coach in the psychological preparation of team in both pre-game and post-game; and for developing motivational approach to practice and meets.
  • Assist with filming and technique instruction.
  • Develop comprehensive knowledge of soccer in decision-making, delegating authority and in setting objectives.
  • Travel to all competitions – in-state and out-of-state is required.

Administrative

  • Understand and adhere to all rules and regulations of the NCAA, RMAC and Colorado School of Mines.
  • Effective and timely preparation and management of administrative functions related to the soccer program is required. Duties include making travel plans, maintaining compliance logs and campus visits, etc.
  • Attend meetings as necessary.
  • Successfully complete all required NCAA and Mines coaches curriculum and trainings.

Recruiting

  • Collaborate annual and long term recruiting strategies that reflect the University, Department and program values.
  • Assist the head coach in the recruitment of quality student-athletes, commensurate with the admissions qualifications of Colorado School of Mines who are capable of successfully competing at the NCAA level. Maintain good relations with the parents of prospective and current student-athletes.
  • Timely and respectfully respond to all recruiting communications.
  • Travel to games and tournaments for recruiting in-state and out-of-state is required.

Student Affairs

  • Monitor academic progress of student-athletes. Work closely with auxiliary staff in solving and preventing academic problems.
  • Cooperate with team physicians and sports medicine staff regarding health care and decisions of practice and participation of student-athletes.
  • Support and encourage student-athlete participation in community service and other outreach activities.

Alumni Relations, Public Relations and Development

  • Establish a social media presence that reflects university, department and program values.
  • Responsible for the maintenance of sound alumni relations and for promoting and participating in various alumni events in cooperation with the Athletic Development staff.
  • Assist in fundraising efforts on behalf of the Men’s Soccer program and Department as requested.
  • Positively represent Colorado School of Mines and the Department of Athletics, including acting and dressing appropriately in practices, meets and within the community.
  • Teach and embody good sportsmanship and set a good moral example to Mines’ student-athletes.

Other

  • Report issues and concerns to the Head Coach and/or Sport Administrator and faithfully and diligently carry out other Department related duties as assigned.
  • Demonstrate a cooperative attitude towards all sports in the Intercollegiate and Recreational programs.
  • Must be willing to work odd hours including, nights, weekends and holidays.
  • Failure to comply with all NCAA, RMAC and Colorado School of Mines regulations and policies will be cause for termination.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
  • Experience in coaching soccer at the collegiate level.
  • Professional verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work in a dynamic fast paced environment and manage stressful situations.

Certifications and Licenses:

  • CPR/AED and First Aid certifications.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • This position requires excellent communication skills and the ability to communicate with many internal and external entities in a variety of ways. Must be able to communicate with coaches, student-athletes, athletics administration and prospective student-athletes and their families.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:

  • Master’s degree from an accredited institution.
  • Experience in coaching soccer at a high academic institution.
  • Demonstrated results leading and coaching a high-caliber sports program in a highly competitive, academic environment.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to represent a public persona that aligns with Mines values.
  • Ability to work with a diverse community, alumni, Boosters and Mines Foundation.
  • Ability to work closely with athletic training, and staff to facilitate prevention and recovery from injury of student-athletes.

  • Typical physical activity of coaching roles: standing for long periods of time, walking, long work days, etc.

Potential Environmental Conditions/Hazards:

  • Must perform job duties in inclement weather.

SALARY and BENEFITS

$56,720 annually
