Job Description

As a Senior DB2 Engineer you will design, document and execute the migration of IBM DB2 databases from AIX to RHEL, ensuring minimal downtime and full data integrity including use of data migration tools such as IBM Q Replication. You will innovate and engineer solutions in the area of database technology.

You will collaborate across diverse teams, projects, and environments to have a firsthand impact on our global customer base. You’ll bring a passion for innovation, data, search, analytics, and distributed systems. You’ll also solve challenging technical problems, often ones not solved before, at every layer of the stack. You will design, implement, test, deploy and maintain innovative software solutions to transform service performance, durability, cost, and security.

Moreover, you will assess DB2 environments, identify dependencies and develop comprehensive migration plans to modernise and transform. You will make recommendations on database changes for the current environment and target state environment considering the migration to RHEL. You will also perform current state and target environment testing to establish performance baselines. You will implement IBM DB2 High Availability Disaster Recovery and Tivoli System Automation or other alternative to support HA clustering.

You will enhance performance and reliability through the configuration, optimisation and fine-tuning of DB2 instances on RHEL. Collaboration with infrastructure, application and security teams to ensure a seamless transition is a must, as well as troubleshooting migration-related issues and implementing effective resolutions. You will document processes, configurations and migration steps to support operational teams' post-migration and provide knowledge transfer and training to internal teams as needed.

Qualifications

  • Prior experience in a similar role.
  • Deep knowledge and experience designing and maintaining relational databases preferably IBM Db2 with IBM DB2 database administration.
  • Coding skills in the procedural language for at least one database engine a must (PL/SQL, T-SQL etc.)
  • Proven expertise in DB2 migration projects, particularly from AIX to RHEL. 
  • Strong knowledge of DB2 LUW (Linux, UNIX, Windows) and related tools. 
  • Systems engineering experience, including Linux performance, memory management, I/O tuning, configuration, security, networking, clusters and troubleshooting.
  • Experience with shell scripting, high availability automation, and performance tuning. 
  • Understanding of HA (High Availability) and DR (Disaster Recovery) solutions for DB2. 
  • Experience with patching of instances and DB2 database upgrades 
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work under tight deadlines. 
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills. 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Consulting experience is a plus
  • Experience with cloud environments such as GCP or AWS 
  • Experienced in database migration tools such as IBM Q Replication  
  • IBM DB2 HADR (High Availability Disaster Recovery) + TSA (Tivoli System Automation) 

Preferred Certifications: 

  • IBM Certified Database Administrator – DB2
