Job Description

Nevada State University invites applications for the position of Student Worker - School of Nursing Dean's Office Assistant. The student worker will work closely with School of Nursing (SON) Administration and Staff performing functions associated with a professional licensing program to include the program admissions process, student admission advisement/customer service, graduation and pinning events, orientation, records analysis and archival determinations, and all other specialized projects assigned.

The Student Worker will gain knowledge needed to perform both technical and analytical processes by completing tasks in coordination with project lead. As program/practices process knowledge grows, so will assignments to include application workshop development and delivery, advanced student services providing nursing program information to interested parties, records preservation and or disposal, along with other key supportive responsibilities of the SON Dean’s Office. This position will also provide phone coverage, respond to student inquiries by phone and email, assist with room scheduling, perform data entry into student information system, and will be accountable for maintaining the highest level of confidentiality.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Assist SON Administration and Staff with completing departmental processes required to administer professional licensing program.
  • Accurately enter sensitive data/information into spreadsheet used to perform analytical determinations for acceptances into the nursing program during admission cycles.
  • Review printed materials/records to determine appropriate archival processing based off provided guidelines.
  • Assist faculty, students, staff and public as a student liaison representing the School of Nursing requiring a high degree of professionalism.
  • Create informational materials such as flyers and electronic communications for distribution.
  • Answer main SON phone line and check specified nursing email accounts including replying to inquiries.
  • Provide administrative support for SON Dean’s Office daily activities and special events.
  • Assist with office support, including creating and editing Word documents, spreadsheets, and presentations. 
  • Outstanding customer service skills will be used responding to inquiries from both students and public.
  • Provide office coverage during Administrative Team Meetings
  • Meeting and event set-up.
  • Maintain supply inventory and check out lists for required equipment.
  • Additional duties will be assigned as program knowledge base and needs grows.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be in good academic standing and maintain a GPA of 2.0 or higher.
  • Must be enrolled as a degree seeking student with a minimum of 6 credits in the current or upcoming semester at Nevada State.
  • Eligibility to work in the United States without sponsorship (Nevada State does not sponsor employment-related visas).
  • Intermediate level experience with Excel.
  • Experience using Word, Outlook and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to perform work with high degree of accuracy.
  • Customer service oriented.

  • Previous experience working with confidential records.

Work Hours:

This position will work 19.5 hours per week. Prefer morning availability but will work with class schedule. Scheduled work hours will be performed during regular work week hours, Monday – Friday, between 8:00am and 5:00pm.

Hourly Rate:

$12.00 per hour.
