About the Role

As the dedicated Automation Engineer for Ramp’s IT Engineering team, you will lead the charge in building forward-thinking, full-featured, and scalable automation and integration solutions. These solutions will empower your colleagues in IT and across Ramp to reduce or eliminate burdensome manual work. You’ll have the opportunity to take full ownership of the IT automation strategy, exploring cutting-edge tools and solutions to reshape how teams work and drive impactful change across the company.

Your expertise in connecting numerous tools through APIs, automation platforms, and full-on code will have a wide-reaching impact. You’ll play a pivotal role in shaping the future of IT automation at Ramp by identifying inefficiencies, designing scalable solutions, and driving productivity improvements across teams. Your work will not only solve immediate challenges but also lay the foundation for long-term operational excellence, empowering Ramp to scale efficiently and focus on strategic priorities.

What You’ll Do

  • Design, build, and deploy scalable automation solutions to streamline complex workflows and integrations.

  • Research, evaluate, and communicate technical solutions clearly to teammates across all levels.

  • Partner with cross-functional teams to identify automation opportunities, transforming manual processes into efficient, measurable improvements.

  • Collaborate closely with IT Operations to optimize and automate technical support tasks and daily operations.

  • Mentor IT Engineering teammates through hands-on collaboration, elevating their automation skill sets and capabilities.

  • Prototype and integrate emerging technologies into Ramp’s existing systems to enhance automation capabilities.

  • Assess project requirements to select and implement the most effective automation tools and approaches.

What You Need 

  • 4+ years of experience in an IT Engineering position, with an emphasis on integration-building and workflow automation.

  • Deep understanding of tools in Ramp’s core technology stack (Okta, Google Workspace, Slack, Zoom) and the ability to quickly learn and master new platforms.

  • Strong proficiency in using APIs and logic to build with no-code or low-code automation platforms like Okta Workflows, Tines, and Tray.

  • Proven capability to build custom-code solutions using Python for solving more complex problems.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to think strategically about the role of automation in scaling business processes.

  • Experience with developing Slack applications and a strong understanding of Block Kit.

  • A passion for building creative solutions to solve complex problems in unique and innovative ways.

  • The drive to push the envelope of what’s possible with today’s tools, while advocating for the technologies needed to reach the next level.

Nice-to-Haves

  • Experience working with Tray.ai/Tray.io

  • Proficiency in GraphQL APIs.

  • Experience in JS/TypeScript

  • Familiarity with deploying custom-code solutions to platforms like Google Cloud Run, App Engine, or similar.

  • Willingness to learn and expand your expertise into new platforms and tools as needed.
