UI/UX Designer

Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL) seeks a UI/UX Designer to join our marketing team and help in creating effective user experiences for our marketing websites and shaping our online presence. A successful candidate will be able to demonstrate experience with user interface and user experience design, content architecture, visual design principles, and have a strong design portfolio. As a UI/UX designer, a typical day might include the following:  

  • Create new user interface designs for use on the web. 

  • Work within design system to apply existing SEL styles and methods to new web projects. 

  • Work closely with web and graphic designers, developers, writers, and project managers to ensure websites support overall company business strategies. 

  • Contribute to the creation and maintenance of the SEL design system. 

  • Ensure web designs and projects are built and tested in a manner consistent with user-centered design principals, including low- and hi-fidelity prototyping, usability testing, functional testing, and alignment with best practices.  

  • Participate with designers in formal and informal design critiques. Be a constructive member of the design team. 

  • Participate in UX research activities to fully characterize the customer and advocate for user needs. 

  • Confidently communicate design intent and rationalize design decisions to stakeholders. 

  • Define, measure, and improve website design, development, and maintenance processes. 

  • Follow and apply SEL Values, Principles of Operations, and World Class Manufacturing Principles. 

  • Understand. Create. Simplify. 

  • Other duties as assigned. 

 This job might be for you if you have:

  • An A.S. or B.S. degree in web design, interactive media, graphic design, or related program or equivalent work experience 

  • 5+ years demonstrable experience designing user interfaces for web and mobile 

  • Strong visual design portfolio with relevant UI/UX work. 

  • Demonstrable experience with modern HTML and CSS web design patterns, including mobile and responsive websites. 

  • Strong knowledge of information architecture 

  • Works well in a team environment, able to collaborate, critique, receive critique, and clearly/creatively communicate design rationale 

  • Experience designing within established design system. 

  • Experience working on multiple projects with competing resources and deadlines. 

  • Self-motivated and able to work on projects independently as well as with a team. 

  • Ability to continuously learn and communicate technical information. 

  • Background check results satisfactory to SEL. 

  • Negative drug test result(s).

Pay Range Data

We anticipate filling this position as a Lead Marketing Designer $58,200.00 - $91,200.00. We are open to reviewing additional candidates with more or less experience and the pay range may differ if filled at a different level. Our pay ranges are determined by job, responsibility, and location. We base our starting pay offer and title on location and job-related factors such as candidate experience, training, knowledge, and skills.
