Lead Ortho Tech

Supports physician in all aspects of clinic; including fitting and applying pre-operative braces, crutches, and other soft goods; helping prepare and apply casts and orthopedic appliances; and removing sutures, casts, and splints. Independently see patients in clinic for wound care, aspirations, minor surgical procedures, and fracture reductions; may give patients instructions concerning cast care and the use of orthopedic appliances; may prepare and set up traction as requested by the physician and can assess patients in traction, detect deficiencies in the equipment and make adjustments as needed; may clean and stock the cast and soft goods room, order special supplies or equipment, and coordinate collection of patient data. Assist and train the orthopedic technician staff to support the physicians in these above duties. Must possess the ability to lead and direct clinical team in the flow of patients.

Required Qualifications and Skills:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in Orthopedics.
  • Command of verbal and written English.
  • Positive interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Computer skills. Cerner experience a plus
  • Knowledge of physician appointments and schedule management.
  • Must be able to work independently and fully understand all facets associated with the responsibilities of a leader, with the ability to adjust to priorities.

Other Responsibilities:

  • Provide back-up support for the medical assistant team, which includes all functions of a medical assistant.
  • Assist in the supervision of work and performance of medical assistants, including input for performance reviews.
  • Oversee and train new and existing staff along with leadership.
  • Clinical responsibilities include rooming patients, taking vitals, procedures, prescription renewals, triage of patient phone calls, review charts, lab test results, scheduling patients, responding to provider messages.
  • Perform other administrative tasks and clinical care as assigned.
  • Coordinate the inventory, ordering and supply stock maintenance of medical supplies.
  • Work collaboratively with office staff on programs to improve patient outcomes.

Education/Training

  • Associate of Applied Science in Orthopedic Technology preferred

Licenses/Certification:

  • Registered Orthopedic Technologist Surgical Certified (ROT-SC)
  • Nationally Certified Medical Assistant, RMA (AAH) Preferred

Able to lift, push, pull without restrictions; able to use proper body mechanics.  Able to work extra hours, including some weekend/holiday rotations.  Exposure to blood or other infectious materials, as well as cleaning and hydrotherapy chemical per OSHA definition in associates-based rehab program.
