Target UX is a group of design, content, research, and accessibility practitioners and experts with a passion for improving and innovating our digital experiences for Target’s guests, team members, and partners. Here, we pride ourselves on designing tangible, inspiring, and impactful solutions that serve all aspects of our business– and being part of the team means you will play a critical role for Target’s digital experience by increasing ease, simplicity, value, and delight for every touchpoint.
About the role:
As a Lead Content Designer, you’ll be at the forefront of Target’s evolving digital experiences, shaping them for all those who interact with Target, and contributing to business growth. You will ensure that all those who interact with Target receive a best-in-class experience, while also staying highly attuned the business’s needs and backend systems.
We’re looking for two high-performing Lead Content Designers who can help establish an ecosystem of communication that is clear and highly usable. One of these roles will do so for guest email and communications within our Marketing Technology team, and the other role will do so for vendors as part of our Vendor Experience team. Both roles will be tackling big questions around how users engage with content, establishing systems that allow them to do so successfully, and advocating for their needs and the power of Content Design along the way.
You’ll work alongside product designers, product managers, business partners, researchers, and developers to deliver best-in-class experiences. You will also have the support of the Content Design team to compare notes on writing, language, and how content comes to life across the organization. You’ll be empowered to create clear and engaging content for existing experiences, and to envision entirely new experiences, proactively seeking out ways that content can bring joy and ease into the lives of our vendors.
This role will rely heavily on collaboration and cross-functional partnerships. It’s an exciting opportunity to establish new ways of working and bring a service design mindset to an established Content Design practice.
Responsibilities:
Develop content systems and recommendations, synthesizing Target’s tone and voice, user needs, business requirements, and principles of UX.
Help stand up a new ecosystem of communications through content governance, systems, style guides, and best practices.
Test, iterate, learn, and implement learnings into future projects as well as bringing them to a larger audience via style guides and cross-functional collaborations.
Act as a strategic thought leader in your space, proactively identifying and pursuing content opportunities within and across products.
Track the end-to-end communication flow and partner with stakeholders in service of consistency and cohesion.
Advocate for communication needs and priorities within the user experience team and beyond.
Conduct user experience research independently and in collaboration with the UX research team.
Help lead content-centered critiques, workshops, and skill development opportunities and mentor more junior members of the content design team.
About you:
7+ years of content design and/or UX writing experience.
Strong systems thinking abilities
Experience working with content management systems, content tagging, and content governance
A portfolio that showcases your passion for language and commitment to UX principles, inclusive of case studies that demonstrate how your work leveled-up the user experiences
Ability to present and articulate the strategy and choices behind your work
Ability to prioritize your workload, balancing time for strategic thinking with the necessities of day-to-day deliverables
Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work in ambiguous environments
Curiosity about the intersection of language and design in user experience and interest in exploring the boundaries of both
