We provide services and supports to adults, and families with accompanying children in the form of accommodation, case management, assertive outreach, financial assistance, community connection and referral services. 

he Community Support Worker is part of a multidisciplinary team at Flagstaff and The Open Door, providing accommodation support and engagement for males experiencing homelessness with complex needs. The role involves welcoming clients into a supportive community marked by acceptance, compassion, and care.

About the role  

We are seeking a values-driven Community Support worker who will deliver community support, ensuring services are client-centered, strengths-based, and trauma-informed, while reflecting the mission and values of The Salvation Army.

Reporting to the Team Leader  this is a Permanent, Full-time  role, located in North Melbourne, Victoria.

 
You will successfully;

  • Provide individual support and group activities focused on social, recreational, and health needs, helping residents develop skills for independent living.
  • Facilitate group activities that address social support, recreation, education, and health, and ensure access to specialist services such as health, mental health, AOD, and therapeutic interventions.
  • Collaborate with casework teams, specialist services, and external providers to build a supportive community environment.
  • Maintain accurate records of attendance, outcomes, case notes, and required documentation.
  • Manage risks and challenging situations, ensuring incidents are reported and handled according to TSA and government processes.
  • Contribute to facility operations by participating in rostered and ad-hoc tasks, including responsive cleaning.
  • Foster a positive team culture based on mutual respect and collaboration, and assist in the induction of new staff.
  • Manage Samis accounting functions, including client service fees and HEF bookings.

You will have;

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in social work, community services or related field
  • Experience and knowledge of housing and homelessness sector (desirable)
  • Flexibility: The ability to adapt to changing priorities and work effectively in a dynamic environment. 
  • Interpersonal Skills: Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build trusting relationships and engage effectively with vunerable members in our community
  • A National Criminal History Check
  • Working With Children Check is required
  • Compulsory Code of Conduct, WHS and Bullying and Harassment training modules are completed and up to date.
