About The Role

The Commissioning Editor (cruise) will devise, commission and create innovative content ideas for the Travel team that work across all platforms. This includes but is not limited to: news analysis, comment, features and destination guides.

Key Responsibilities

  • To deliver expertise in Travel in general and cruise holidays in particular and to ensure that all features conform to the Telegraph’s Digital First strategy.
  • To attend regular commissioning meetings to present features ideas in a collaborative style for team input and development.
  • To manage and deliver content for digital output.
  • To edit copy at speed.
  • To attract freelance writing talent.
  • To nurture and develop PR contacts in the industry and beyond.
  • To set a high standard of digital journalism (visuals, edits, sells and headlines).
  • To find new ways/ideas to drive engagement with travel content.
  • To represent Travel externally where and when required.

  • Keen instinct for a good story and how to tell it - needs features and lifestyle experience as well as travel.
  • Understanding of what content (and particularly cruise content) engages our readers and encourages them to subscribe and register.
  • Understand how to deliver on a long-term content strategy.
  • Understanding of the trends and cultural shifts in the travel/cruise industry.
  • Motivated to build relationships with travel industry contacts, PRs and decision makers and influencers.
  • Enthusiasm for travel – including research and booking patterns
  • Demonstrates self-motivation and initiative.
  • Able to work well under pressure and to tight deadlines whilst maintaining accuracy.
  • The ability to work comfortably both independently and as part of a team.
  • Personable and professional when representing Travel internally and externally.
