Job Description

Be a part of a world-class academic healthcare system at Ingalls Memorial Hospital as an Occupational Therapy Assistant  in the Occupational Therapy Rehab department. 

 

The Occupational Therapy Assistant is consistent with the American Occupational Therapy Association, Occupational Therapy Assistants are experts at analyzing the performance skills and patterns necessary for people to engage in their everyday activities in the contexts and environments in which those activities and occupations occur.  The practice of occupational therapy includes methods or strategies selected to direct the process of interventions and evaluation of factors affecting Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), Instrumental Activities of Daily Living (IADLs), education, work, play, leisure, and social participation. Occupational Therapy Assistants deliver occupational therapy services under the supervision of and in partnership with the occupational therapist.

 

 Essential Job Functions:

  • Adheres to all hospital policies and Ingalls Memorial Hospital Standards of Care.
  • Utilizes resources appropriately and maintains equipment order to prolong working life.
  • Supports and participates in LEAN organizational initiatives as directed.
  • Maintains an environment which is characterized by trust, acceptance, recognition and respect.
  • Strong patient advocate.
  • Actively supports the vision philosophy, mission, goals and objectives of the hospital.
  • Meets core clinical competencies for level care completes annual competencies as per department.
  • Seeks educational opportunities to advance clinical skills; regularly attends department in-services, as appropriate.
  • Works with others to improve level of skill throughout the department.
  • Seeks and implements use of evidence based practice.
  • Documents results and recommendations, interdisciplinary communication per department protocol; documents skilled service and supports billing.
  • Recommends appropriate treatment intensity and discharges patient when the individual no longer meets criteria for level of service, meets goals, reaches prior level of function or is no longer in need of/benefitting from skilled intervention.
  • Complies with billing practices per department protocol.
  • Accountable for appropriate use of department and hospital resources.
  • Meets productivity standards as defined by the department.
  • Refers back to the Occupational Therapist for re-evaluation or goal/disposition planning as appropriate.
  • Demonstrates adherence to Ingalls Memorial Hospital Performance Standards of Service in all interactions with all stakeholders.
  • Actively participates in providing suggestions to department leadership improve daily operations, employee satisfaction.
  • Demonstrates a solution oriented approach towards obstacles.
  • Identifies opportunities for process improvement and/or improved service delivery.
  • Provides direct supervision for patient-related activities and appropriate delegation of tasks to Rehabilitation Aides.
  • Functions as Clinical Instructor for Occupational Therapy Assistant Students as appropriate in department.

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Graduated from a Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant (COTA) program accredited by the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy.
  • Education or predecessor organization; successfully passes the National Certification examination and/or met State requirements for licensure/registration.
  • Illinois Licensure.
  • Eligible specific practice areas may require advanced certification or previous experience to address patient care needs.
  • Basic Life Support Certification.
  • Basic computer proficiency.
  • Effective verbal and written communication, including ability to communicate with other cultures or those with language or cognitive impairments.
  • Foreign graduates shall submit certification of passage of the Test of English as a foreign Language (TOEFL) and the Test if Spoken English (TSE).
