RN Labor Delivery

Overview

As a nurse in the labor and delivery unit, you will have varying roles and responsibilities. You may work in Obstetrics - triaging patients or perform screening exams on walk-ins or you may guide patients through a routine induction and delivery. You’re busy monitoring the mother’s dilation progress while also keeping close watch on the baby’s fetal heart rate. You'll be coaching mom as the baby is delivered and providing updates and support to the patient’s partner and loved ones

 

CHI Health Good Samaritan is a 268-bed regional referral center in Kearney, Nebraska. You’ll find an advanced level trauma center that also offers AirCare emergency helicopter transport and an ambulance program providing long distance and local 911 service. Among our many other services are cardiac care including open-heart surgery, a level II neonatal intensive care unit, a nationally accredited cancer center, comprehensive neurosurgery, advanced orthopedic program, and inpatient and outpatient mental health services at our free-standing Richard Young Behavioral Health facility.

 

The Maternity Center at CHI Health Good Samaritan has 19 L&D private patient rooms. We are a Level II NICU and we provide care for patients from antepartum, labor, delivery, and postpartum, including mother-baby care in our Maternity Center.

 

 

Compensation: Base rate + shift differential

Incentives: up to $15,000 sign-on bonus, up to $10,000 education assistance (must have graduated within 5 years)

Responsibilities

  • Triage walk-ins to determine if a patient is in labor, water is broken, false alarm, etc
  • Support pregnant patients in labor including induction, epidural assistance (if needed), general pain management and fetal monitoring
  • Assist and circulate in the operating room for cesarean sections, tubal ligation, cerclage and emergency procedures
  • Educate patients on various interventions or procedures - medications (name and purpose), exams, and labor stages
  • Assess newborn and provide care.
  • Communicate with the care management team, including anesthesiologist, physician or midwife, lactation nurse, charge nurse, postpartum unit, patient and family

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an RN nursing program
  • Active RN licensure in the state of Nebraska. 
  • BLS through American Heart Association.
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certification required within 5 months of hire.
