Job Description

SUMMARY

  • Under limited supervision, coordinates and maintains continuity of patient care for each shift. Serves as an administrative liaison interpreting and communicating hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Patients served include Neonate through Adult-Geriatric.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: This job has supervisory responsibility.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • To qualify for the position, the candidate must possess a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from an accredited school of nursing; currently licensed as an RN in the State of Maryland; successful completion of required hospital, nursing and unit orientation, including but not limited to BCLS, ACLS and PALS certification. Professional Certification in a nursing specialty preferred. Must demonstrate ability to learn and use computer systems in order to manage patient information. Must demonstrate effective interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills. Three to five years’ experience with informal/formal leadership level.

 

CONDITIONS: The new hire or transfer employee will remain within this job category for a probationary period of six months. With a satisfactory criteria based performance evaluation, the employee will advance to a regular status employee. If the evaluation is not satisfactory, the employee will be terminated.

 

SKILLS & ABILITIES: The ability to ensure the confidentiality and rights of all patient and departmental documents is required.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS: The ability to read, analyze and interpret physician’s orders and other written communication methods of the health care team is essential. Ability to respond to customer inquiries or to those of other members of the health care team must be present. The incumbent must demonstrate an ability to read and interpret age-specific data regarding patient conditions. He/she must demonstrate spoken English ability to communicate patient and family education in an age appropriate context.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to work with mathematical concepts in the preparation of medications, intravenous drips and other therapeutic interventions.

 

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to identify problems, collect data, establish facts regarding the patient/family condition, and to prioritize the needs of the patient and family.

 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES AND REGISTRATIONS: Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Maryland and BCLS, ACLS and PALS certification. Certification in a nursing specialty is preferred.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Will work in a clean, well-lighted environment.
