Your mission:

We are seeking a Technical Product Manager – Data Platform to play a pivotal role in shaping and driving the strategy, development, and adoption of our data platform. This role sits at the intersection of technology and product management, enabling our engineering teams to build robust, scalable, and high-performing data products. As part of the Platform Engineering tribe, you will collaborate closely with engineering teams, stakeholders, and leadership to define and execute a vision for the data platform that empowers the organization to scale data-driven solutions effectively.

The platform tribe's mission
The Platform Engineering Tribe at Upvest serves as the backbone of our engineering efforts, providing a reliable and innovative platform that empowers teams to achieve their goals. Our mission is to enhance the developer experience by delivering tools, workflows, and infrastructure that streamline daily tasks and free engineers to focus on their core work. We optimize resource usage to reduce development costs, establish consistent and standardized practices to improve collaboration and data reliability, and ensure secure, compliant workflows that meet regulatory standards. By staying at the forefront of technology, we create a platform that fosters innovation and supports teams in building impactful, high-quality products.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Ownership: Define and own the vision, roadmap, and strategy for the data platform, ensuring alignment with broader company goals and engineering objectives.

  • Enablement Focus: Collaborate with engineering teams to build foundational data infrastructure and tools that enable efficient development and deployment of data products.

  • Stakeholder Management: Work closely with infrastructure, data engineering, analytics, and business teams to understand their needs and translate them into platform requirements.

  • Technical Product Development: Drive the development of platform capabilities, such as data ingestion and processing frameworks, APIs, self-service pipelines, data governance frameworks, and self-service tools.

  • Data Democratization: Lead initiatives to make high-quality, discoverable, and secure data available across teams, promoting a culture of data ownership and autonomy.

  • Delivery Oversight: Collaborate with engineering teams to ensure on-time, high-quality delivery of platform features, ensuring they meet technical and business requirements.

  • Evangelism: Advocate for the adoption and use of the data platform tools and services, ensuring alignment across the organization and addressing resistance points where necessary.

Job requirements:

  • Experience in Product Management: 5+ years in a product management role, preferably in technical or platform-oriented products within a data-intensive environment.

  • Technical Expertise: Strong understanding of data engineering concepts such as data pipelines, data warehousing, (reverse) ETL/ELT, data modelling, distributed event logs (Kafka), data processing libraries (Flink, Kafka Streams), and developer experience in all of these topics.

  • Strategic Thinker: Proven ability to define a vision and strategy, break it into actionable steps, and deliver measurable outcomes.

Nice-to-Have:

  • Hands-on Technical Background: Experience as an engineer, data scientist, or similar technical role before transitioning to product management.

  • Cloud Experience: Familiarity with cloud-based data platforms (GCP, AWS, Azure) and managed services like BigQuery or Snowflake.

  • Domain Knowledge: Experience in fintech or other highly regulated industries.
