Job Description

BENEFITS

POSITION PURPOSE: The Stationary Engineer’s primary responsibility is to provide operations and maintenance support to the facility. This would include repair and maintenance and preventive maintenance on building systems and equipment included in the scope of work associated with the contract between Veolia and the client. The Stationary Engineer will report directly to the Chief Engineer.

PRIMARY DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Operation, maintenance, installation, replacement and repair of all boilers, heating pumps, valves, appurtenances and lines used in the distribution of steam and heated or processed water.
  2. Operation, maintenance, installation, replacement and repair of refrigerant compressors, condensers, evaporators, traps, transfer pumps, expansion valves, stop valves and float valves, together with all refrigerant lines and devices used to control temperature, and air conditioning systems in their entirety.
  3. Operation, maintenance, installation, replacement and repair of pumps handling brines or other secondary refrigerating liquids together with all valves, appurtenances and lines used in the system.
  4. Operation, maintenance, installation, replacement and repair of air compressors, together with distribution lines and all valves and devices for air control.
  5. Operation, maintenance, installation, replacement and repair of all natural and manufactured gas distribution lines, including all valves and devices for air control.
  6. Operation, maintenance, installation, replacement and repair of water filters, softeners, piping and pumps used in conjunction with water distribution, including all sinks and toilet bowls, including all supply lines, drains, water lines, control devices and sprinkler systems.
  7. Operation, maintenance, installation, replacement and repair of all types of electrical motors and engines used to power pumps, compressors and fans.
  8. Operate and maintain all data center specific HVAC, and Electrical Systems to include: PDUs, CRAC Units, UPS Modules, Static Transfer Switches, Emergency Generators, Cooling Towers, Fans, Motors, Underfloor LDS, specialized Fire Systems including Fire suppression, and FA monitoring including VESDA
  9. Appropriate levels of electrical work including troubleshooting and repair.
  10. Tools considered as necessary to the fulfillment of the duties of the engineer shall include all those which may be required in the performance of his duties, including such types of special equipment necessary to operate, install, maintain and repair the equipment listed.
  11. Operation, maintenance, installation, replacement and repair of all repair of all fuel oil systems including pumps, valves, lines and controls.
  12. Operation, maintenance, installation, replacement and repair of building automation systems for HVAC, including consoles, data gathering panels, remote sensors and indicating devices.
  13. Operation, maintenance, installation, replacement and repair of all mail conveyor systems excluding tenant owned systems.
  14. Operation, maintenance, installation, replacement and repair of sanitary sewer systems, sump pumps including basins, water closets, urinals and piping.
  15. Maintenance, installation, replacement and repair of trash compactors, including electrical and hydraulic systems.
  16. Maintenance, installation, replacement and repair of all kitchen equipment excluding tenant owned equipment.
  17. Operation, maintenance, installation, replacement and repair of all life Safety related equipment.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS / WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Lift heavy equipment and carry materials up and down stairs with the capacity of lifting about 50 pounds. 
  • Hear and understand audible alarms, detect changes in noise levels of rotating equipment and portable radio communication.
  • Occasional stooping, bending, or kneeling and entering confined spaces.
  • Constantly uses hands to finger, handle or feel and frequently reaches with hands and arms.  
    Works in various positions; works on ladders, catwalks, and supports at heights of 50 feet above the ground; and works with hands extended above and below head and body. 
  • Typically spends 25 – 35% of time exposed to outdoor and sometimes inclement weather.

Qualifications

Education / Experience / Background:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Apprenticeship program preferred.
  • Minimum of five (5) years experience in the implementation of the above.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:

  • Excellent time management skills and the ability to problem solve. 
  • Must be highly organized, with excellent attention to detail.

Required Certification / Licenses / Training:

  • EPA – refrigerant
  • Fire Pump license preferred.
  • High Rise Fire Safety.
  • Licensed for equipment – responsible per job location.
