Systems Engineer, Vehicle Security

Waymo's Systems Engineering team works together to blend software and hardware systems in groundbreaking new ways. We set the high performance standards that ensure our vehicles run smoothly and keep passengers safe, then design and perform the tests that validate that performance. We're looking for talented teammates who'll help us maintain strong teamwork and are passionate about driving results.

This is a hybrid role, reporting to a Systems Engineering Manager

 

You will:

  • Develop and own comprehensive system security requirements aligned with the high-level vehicle platform security strategy
  • Create detailed security requirements for Waymo software interfaces to ensure secure communication with the vehicle platform
  • Work with OEMs and Functional Systems Engineers to define and implement the network security architecture
  • Define and manage requirements for vehicle platform features that are based on security concepts, such as Digital Key and SOTA
  • Develop Verification and Validation (V&V) plans, execute tests, analyze results, and resolve defects related to platform security across various platforms and prototype phases
  • Oversee the delivery timing of feature sets and software updates to the vehicle prototype fleet, and troubleshoot issues to ensure required capabilities

 

You have:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Communications Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Computer Science, Physics or similar
  • A deep knowledge of vehicle communication networks and protocols (Physical and Application layer, e.g. CAN, FlexRay, LIN, Ethernet, DBCs, etc) and an understanding of the embedded systems that control via these networks
  • A thorough understanding of vehicle communications and module security technology
  • The ability to create & negotiate targets and requirements with OEMs and Waymo adjacencies and create and execute effective DVPs as part of the role. A bonus will be somebody who understands the automotive development process and phases (e.g. M1, VB, TT etc.
  • A thorough understanding of vehicle communications and module security technology. Including knowledge of Autosar SecOC and security relevant services in ISO14229-1 UDS.

 

We prefer:

  • At least 3 years experience in an automotive security (or similar industry) role delivering software and/or hardware
  • Thorough knowledge of CCC Digital Key
  • Security best practices for automotive systems
  • Writing security requirements
  • Designing security features
  • Ability to travel internationally 2-5 times per year

The expected base salary range for this full-time position across US locations is listed below. Actual starting pay will be based on job-related factors, including exact work location, experience, relevant training and education, and skill level. Your recruiter can share more about the specific salary range for the role location or, if the role can be performed remote, the specific salary range for your preferred location, during the hiring process. 

Waymo employees are also eligible to participate in Waymo’s discretionary annual bonus program, equity incentive plan, and generous Company benefits program, subject to eligibility requirements.
