LLM Tooling Intern

WindBorne Systems is supercharging weather forecasts with a unique proprietary data source: a global constellation of next-generation smart weather balloons targeting the most critical atmospheric data. We design, manufacture, and operate our own balloons, using the data they collect to generate otherwise unattainable weather intelligence.

Our mission is to eliminate weather uncertainty, and in the process help humanity adapt to climate change, be that predicting hurricanes or speeding the adoption of renewables. We are building a future in which the planet is instrumented by thousands of our microballoons, eliminating gaps in our understanding of the planet and giving people and businesses the information they need to make critical decisions. The founding team of Stanford engineers was named Forbes 2019 30 under 30 and is backed by top-tier investors, including Khosla Ventures and Footwork VC.

We're looking for an LLM Tooling Intern who can help us build internal tools that make our teams more effective. This role combines practical programming skills with creative problem-solving to create tools that bridge our technical data with modern AI capabilities. You'll be working directly with our engineering and operations teams to understand their needs and build solutions that enhance their daily workflows.This role is for someone who enjoys figuring out how to make complex systems accessible and useful. You'll be building interfaces that help our teams work with everything from technical data to operational insights, using natural language to make information more accessible and actionable. If you have ideas for tools that could make our work better, we want to hear them - this is an experimental role where initiative and creativity are encouraged. Responsibilities

  • Design and implement internal tools that leverage LLMs to improve team productivity

  • Build interfaces between various data sources and LLM APIs

  • Work with different teams to understand their needs and use cases

  • Rapidly prototype and iterate on tools based on user feedback and usage patterns

Skills and Qualifications

Required 

  • Solid Python programming experience (you've built real things, not just classroom exercises)

  • Strong communication skills and ability to understand user needs

  • Self-directed problem solving ability

  • Basic understanding of how LLMs work and their practical limitations

  • Some experience using AI coding assistants in your own development workflow

  • Experience with web technologies (or sufficient coding maturity to pick them up)

Nice to have

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher (or currently working towards a degree) in Computer Science or related field

  • Deeper technical understanding of machine learning models

  • Experience with any kind of UI/UX design
