Cornell University’s Statler Hotel is excited to be launching their search for the first class of 2023 Cornell Hospitality Internship Program Interns for the Fall Semester.


The Statler Hotel & The Nolan School of Hotel Administration:

Located in the heart of a vibrant Ivy League campus, the Statler Hotel is part of Cornell University’s Nolan School of Hotel Administration and is the gateway to Cornell University for many visitors. Inspired by curiosity, the humble spirit of Upstate New York, and the scenic beauty of the Finger Lakes region, the Hotel has earned the dual distinction as the area's only AAA Four Diamond Award-winning property and the Ivy League's only "teaching hotel." With 153 rooms, the Statler Hotel is a full-service property with a conference center, four restaurants and over 16,000 square feet of meeting and banquet facilities.

What you will be doing:

  • Receive training and mentorship from our team of professional managers.
  • Participate in projects, field trips, seminars and management meetings to enrich the learning experience.
  • Be exposed to the world-famous Hotel School where we bring student learners face-to-face with successful entrepreneurs, high-level executives, global thought leaders and seasoned alumni.
  • Take a deep dive into mastering the skills of a front-line hospitality position and walk out at the end of the summer with a solid experience to add to your resume.

The ideal candidate for this position:

  • Pursuing, or a recent graduate of, an Associates or Bachelor's Degree in Hospitality, Culinary, Business or related degree
  • Capable of a 14-week minimum commitment from roughly beginning of August to mid-December
  • Previous work experience is helpful, but not necessary in most areas.
  • Prior experience and some technical skills are required for culinary positions.

Internship Positions Available (please make note of your preferred department(s) in order of preference within your cover letter):

  • Front Office – You will learn the skills of both bellstand and guest service agents. Training will include greeting guests, check in/out, parking, transportation, and luggage assistance.
  • Taverna Banfi Restaurant - Taverna Banfi is the Statler’s Tuscan inspired fine dining restaurant. Serving breakfast, lunch, dinner, weekend brunch, and in-room dining. You will learn fine dining service.
  • Regent Lounge - The Regent Lounge is our lobby bar, offering innovative beverages and globally inspired small plates with big flavors. You will learn upscale food and drink service, with a strong focus on beverage.
  • Meetings & Events – You will assist in setup and service of a wide variety of events, including: meetings, conferences, breakfasts, lunches, dinners, cocktail receptions, weddings, and other high-profile special events.
  • Culinary - You will learn basic sanitation and food preparation and get exposure to a wide range of culinary production and service.

Rewards & Benefits:

  • $15.20 per hour for non-tipped positions, $15.20 per hour training wage, $9.45 per hour plus tips for food service staff, and $14.20 per hour plus tips for bellstaff
  • 30 or more hours of work per week
  • Leadership training provided
  • Uniform and work shift meals provided
  • Flexibility to meet the needs of hourly requirements your school may require
  • Experience Us: Receive two complimentary nights at The Statler Hotel (blackout dates apply) to use yourself or for when your parents or friends come to visit


Will I need to provide my own housing and transportation?

Yes!

Housing and transportation are not provided, but sublets are available in the local community. Many of these sublets are within walking distance of The Statler Hotel or on a bus line. If preferred we will assist in getting you in contact with other interns, so you can arrange housing together.
