Graphic Designer – Microsoft Research

Do you love to bring exciting ideas to life through design? Want to rub shoulders with researchers discovering the next big thing in computing and AI? Then you might be our next embedded Graphic Designer for Microsoft Research!


The Graphic Designer will use their design skills and experience to create and deliver innovative on-brand designs, with a focus on digital design. This is a great opportunity to own design projects from concept through to completion while working closely with a creative team.


This role is an Embedded Consultant position, which means you’ll sit directly on the Microsoft Research team to give hands-on support. This remote engagement runs until June 30th with strong potential for renewal.

 

While you’ll spend most of your days working directly with your team at Microsoft, 2A offers multiple points of connection to support you in your role and career. We’ll meet with you and your manager regularly to see how we can support the engagement, and you’ll have opportunities to engage with 2A through working groups, community-building events, and professional development opportunities.


Activities
  • Create bespoke scientific and technical designs for use across digital platforms--assets include images to accompany research-focused podcasts and blogs as well as technical diagrams
  • Create templates to be used across Microsoft Research
  • Provide design support to leadership for high impact presentations
  • Provide support with creation of illustrations, icons, and more
  • Collaborate with our editorial team to create designs which align to our communications plan
  • Work closely with the design lead and the rest of the creative team
  • Align to and uphold high visual standards
  • Own visual design projects from concept through to final artwork
  • Manage workload and prioritize requests in line with agreed priorities, communicating any potential slippage.


Skills and qualifications – need to have
  • Based on the East Coast or able to work in East Coast time zone
  • 5+ years of experience in a full-time graphic design role
  • Strong commercial knowledge of Figma and Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Strong working knowledge of PowerPoint, WordPress and SharePoint.
  • Understanding of brand guidelines and how to use them creatively
  • Strong creative flair with a passion for design and strong attention to detail, demonstrable through your portfolio
  • An inspired collaborator and self-starter, eager to instigate new ideas
  • Excellent communication skills and the confidence to present and explain ideas to colleagues of all levels
  • Great organization and time management skills
  • The ability to work to tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment


Skills and qualifications – nice to have
  • Experience working as an in-house designer in a scientific and/or technical environment


$90,000 - $115,000 a year
