What You'll Do

Role Overview:

The DMLS Technician (CAD Technician) is responsible for the safe and quality operation of DMLS rapid prototyping equipment. They are responsible for the scheduling and preparations of daily builds to maintain scheduled ship dates. Shift will be Tuesday - Saturday, 7am - 4pm.

Details:

  • Operate and maintain the hardware and software of the RP equipment to create high-quality prototypes in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Effectively use all procedures and checklists associated with the RP equipment.
  • Set-up RP builds according to procedures.
  • During assigned rotation period, perform scheduling of builds to maintain scheduled ship dates.
  • Effectively use all procedures and checklists associated with the preparation of builds.
  • During the assigned rotation period, communicate with the Production Manager Metal or with the Finishing Supervisor Metal to ensure the proper level of finishing support to meet scheduled ship dates.
  • During the assigned rotation period, communicate with the Production Manager Metal or with the Finishing Supervisor Metal to facilitate the timely changing of metal powders to keep the customer builds on schedule.
  • Maintain a clean and safe laboratory environment and assist with the restocking of supplies.
  • Assist in the removal and disposal of contaminated materials according to Proto Labs procedures.
  • Assist in the general clean-up and maintenance of the facility.
  • Observe all Safety and Quality Procedures.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

What You Need:

  • The ability to visualize 3-Dimensional parts based on CAD data.
  • Experience with a Windows computing environment as well as the ability to learn custom software packages.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • The ability to learn new techniques.
  • Must be able to follow instructions in operating and maintaining a laboratory in clean and safe manner.
  • Wear all required PPE (gloves, lab coats, etc.)
  • Must be able to read, write and speak English fluently.

Education Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent

Physical Demands:

While performing the essential duties of this job, the employee is expected to sit and stand for the entire shift, lift up to 50 pounds waist high, carry up to 50 pounds alone. Essential job duties require reaching, bending, and grasping. Able to read machine-shop gages and indicators.


Work Environment:

Primarily sedentary work performed in an office environment with periods of high concentration and visual focus while analyzing 3-D data. Additional time spent in a laboratory environment with exposure to chemicals and dust. Periods of intense priority setting when accommodating full, tight and changing build schedules. Periods of elevated noise level during interaction with the Finishing Department.
