About the Company

mTek is a digital platform based in Kenya and registered under Hillcroft Holdings (Mauritius) that is looking to simplify insurance! Our technology helps to reduce the stressful time dealing with insurance processes and transform the same into a refreshing and transparent experience. While using the mTek technology, professionals, partners and end-users can run insurance quotations, compare them, place and manage the policies end-to-end paperless. Furthermore - mTek is providing SaaS solutions to the insurance ecosystem in East Africa.


Our North star is to simplify Insurance in Africa.



Profile

The Chair of the Board is a member of the board and is accountable to provide leadership to the board of directors. The Chair presides over board meetings, proposes policies and practices, sits potentially on various committees [in an ex officio capacity] and monitors the overall performance of the board. Specific attributes we are looking for in an ideal candidate are the following:


Critical
  • Should be between 40s to early 60s
  • Board level experience, with evidence of ensuring the board effectively monitors and supports the company’s strategy, policy and direction to achieve the stated objectives
  • Understanding of the insurance industry including of an awareness of technological advancements that are shaping the industry, such as insurtech at large, digital platforms, and data analytics
  • Experience with the navigating business climate in East Africa and strong relationships with the business community, underwriters, banks and regulatory authorities
  • Operating experience at the C-level, preferably with focus on business development and finance
  • Is not employed by an Insurer in any executive capacity within the last preceding one (1) year and has not been issued a warning or reprimand by any Regulatory Authority in East Africa


Nice to have
  • Understanding of the challenges of managing a fast-growing business in an emerging market
  • Affinity for mentoring entrepreneurs
  • Experience working with private equity and venture capital investors


Other Details

There will be 4 Board meetings per year and they will be held virtually or alternatively physically in Nairobi / Kenya. Logistical expenses (if any) will be covered by the Company.
