ACAD ACHIEVEMENT CNSLR 2 (Student-Athlete Academic Mentor)

Job Summary

Under general supervision of the Assistant Athletics Director, Student-Athlete Advising, the Academic Mentor implements services and activities that support the persistence, retention, and graduation of student-athletes. The Academic Mentor will support those student-athletes who require increased academic support. Serves as an Academic Mentor as well as serves as a member of the academic advising team.

$23.47/hr. - $44.44/hr. - Department budgeted salary range is: $26.44/hr. - $28.85/hr. commensurate with experience.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Required:

Minimum Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in related area and/ or equivalent experience/ training.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA) :

  • Demonstrated mentoring skills, including excellent problem-solving and attention to detail skills to proactively identify and document patterns of student-athlete academic needs and to develop strategies, programs, and plans that promote student-athlete success, persistence, and retention.
  • Ability to respect and maintain professional boundaries with student-athletes from diverse backgrounds and identities as well as provide appropriate guidance and referrals in situations that may present ethical dilemmas or may be emotionally charged or may be crisis situations.
  • Familiarity with or ability to learn NCAA Division I Bylaws and/or UCD academic regulations quickly, as well as an understanding of how quarterly academic success contributes to meeting NCAA & UCD academic regulations.
  • Excellent verbal and written skills to express complex ideas and concepts clearly, concisely, and accurately through emails, memos, reports, and presentations.
  • Ability to effectively multitask, organize, prioritize, collaborate, and communicate, to deliver complex projects and programs according to deadlines set by the unit, campus, and/or NCAA.
  • Demonstrated computer skills to use e-mail, BANNER, OASIS, and other degree navigation software. Ability to design and produce spreadsheets, memos, reports, presentations and other materials using Word, Excel and Power Point. Ability to learn additional computer programs including ARMS and other NCAA-related software.
