Job Details:
The Academic Advisor will provide academic advising and support services to 450+ program participants. This position works under direct supervision.

Responsibilities:
The Academic Advisor will develop and conduct * college readiness workshops, * offer life skill services, * make referrals for pre-college participants including GED students, participants without a four (4) year college degree, displaced workers, and high school students, etc. Duties include:
  • Assertively recruit & enroll participants for services as outlined in grant objectives, including but not limited to: 1. Providing college application admissions assistance; 2. Assisting participants prepare and complete the financial aid application- Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA); 3. Providing academic & career counseling; 4. Providing financial & economic literacy
  • Initiate and maintain thriving collaborative partnerships in the community with colleges, technical schools, non-profit or faith-based organizations, etc. Confirm partnership agreements and responsibilities through a Memorandum of Understanding, Memorandum of Agreement, etc. as provided by Mercer University.
  • Assist with coordinating and implementing training and professional development workshops for student employees, TRIO staff, external partners and community agencies.
  • Maintain caseload of participants by providing multiple relevant workshops, informational sessions, career & educational exposure through college tours and job site visits, expert guest facilitators, i.e. Human Resources experts, Job Fairs, and Employee Recruiters, and school faculty & staff, etc.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of current records of interactions/services, & referrals with students. Submit related reports of intake file data to administrative staff for entry into Blumen. Document and maintain weekly, monthly, and annual report of new Intake Registration Forms and Ineligible applicants to meet annual Performance Reports (APR) requirements.
Qualifications:
A bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university and prior tutoring, instructional and/or advising students to include monitoring of participants' academic progress and career development are required.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
  • Effective communication skills particularly with diverse populations. Ability to build a good rapport with a variety of constituents over a period of time.
  • Ability to listen carefully and follow instructions.
  • Ability to create and present engaging, thought-provoking presentations, workshops, etc.
  • Ability to learn easily and disseminate detailed information clearly.
  • Excellent computer skills.
  • Ability to work independently or collaboratively with others in a team setting.
  • Ability to pay close attention to details.
  • Ability to lift >25 lbs overhead with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Willingness to work on weekends, mornings, and evenings.
