Academic Advisor, Berklee Online

Job Description:

Under the direct supervision of the Senior Academic Advising Manager, Berklee Online, the Academic Advisor is the central point of contact for prospective and existing students for Berklee Online, Berklee College of Music’s online extension school. The Academic Advisor is responsible for recruiting qualified candidates for the online school and counseling and advising current students in an appropriate and professional manner, while maintaining a high level of service.
Use of Capabilities (Illustrated by Typical Activities):
Advising
  • Encourage all undergraduate, graduate, and non-degree students with counseling and advice via phone and email.
  • Understand and communicate Berklee Online policies so that they are easily understandable to students. These policies are ever-growing and include departments outside of Admissions, including the Registrar, Financial Aid, Finance, Student Success, Transfer, etc.
  • Make prompt and effective contacts to assure that enrollment goals are met.
  • Maintain strong product knowledge for existing programs, and learn the ins and outs of all new programs (degrees, certificates, courses, live sessions, etc.)
  • Understand and stay up to date with prerequisites and sample schedules for 11 undergraduate programs and five graduate programs.
  • Handle difficult conversations regarding new policies, prerequisites, withdrawals, etc.
  • Interface daily with the Financial Aid Office and relay information to students regarding documents, award details, and eligibility.
  • Work with Success Department to assist students who are not meeting SAP requirements.
  • Help to plan, organize, and implement student success strategies to coach Berklee Online students through to graduation.
  • Stay up to date with industry trends and provide career and network advising as students approach graduation.
Admissions
  • Recruit, evaluate, and participate in the selection of candidates for admission to both undergraduate and graduate degree programs.
  • Assist applicants with questions on application materials.
  • Maintain liaison with all organizations and individuals involved in the admissions process.
  • Advise parents and applicants about educational planning.
  • Advise prospective students on suitable programs in accordance with their qualifications and objectives.
  • Manage inquiries from prospective students through telephone, email, and occasional face-to-face meetings.
Other
  • Maintain an accurate customer database containing relevant information and profiles that can be used for research, targeting and customization.
  • Participate in virtual open houses, regional presentations, orientation programs, career days, etc., as directed by the Senior Academic Advising Manager and Marketing Team.
  • May have project or program responsibility.
  • Short-term projects as requested by manager to support applicant and student outreach.
