Accounting Assistant

Wag! is seeking a highly motivated Accounting Assistant to join a best-in-class team. You will report directly to the Accounting Manager and work with a first-in-class Accounting team and a wide variety of cross-functional teams to contribute to our continued future growth. The successful candidate will perform a variety of accounting and clerical support duties, including accounts payable, cash management, and other administrative duties. They will possess strong communication skills and demonstrate the ability to work effectively with team members.


What You’ll Do


The Accounting Assistant will play a key role in driving superior performance of the accounting/finance team in a fast-growing company by assisting with the following:


  • Process, code, enter and reconcile invoices in accounting software.
  • Maintain vendor files, produce necessary reports, and generate checks to ensure timely vendor payments on a weekly basis;
  • Oversee online bill pay and record payments into accounting software
  • Manage expense reporting system, including a review of employee expenses in accordance with company policy
  • Prepares various financial reports and projections of funds
  • Prepare bank deposits and subsequent cash receipt entries where required.
  • Maintain efficient electronic filing systems
  • Research clerical accounting problems and recommends solutions to correct problems
  • Review and process reimbursements
  • Prepare cash reconciliations
  • Prepare month-end expense accrual listing
  • Assist in annual audits
  • Support accounting/finance team where needed
  • Participate in other special projects and ad hoc analyses as needed

About You


  • AS/BS or equivalent
  • 2-3 years of accounting assistant experience
  • Strong analytical skills, detail-oriented, and ability to multitask
  • Ability to solve problems and conflicts in a tactical manner
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills as well as interpersonal skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and G-suite
  • Experience with NetSuite, Bill.com, Expensify, and/or ADP a plus
  • High level of honesty, integrity, commitment, and responsibility to day-to-day work
  • Highly motivated and able to thrive under pressure and can deliver to set deadlines
  • Team player with a positive attitude, who is proactive and owns accountability
  • Shares company values and vision and is excited by the challenge of working in a dynamic start-up environment.
  • Self-motivated and resourceful
  • Values integrity and honesty above all else
  • Experience in gig-economy and technology companies and/or a 2-sided marketplace is a plus.

The compensation package for this role includes a market competitive salary, equity for all full time roles, exceptional benefits, and, for a very limited subset of roles, commissions plans. Our expected cash compensation (salary + commission if applicable) range for this role is:


$46,000 - $66,000 in San Francisco, California

$46,000 - $66,000 in New York, New York
