Accounting Manager

Southern Veterinary Partners (SVP) is a regional network of animal hospitals with the common goal of providing the highest quality veterinary care to companion animals. SVP currently owns over 350 locations spanning across 22 states, is acquiring on average 5 new locations per month and is sponsored by a leading private equity team.

SVP has a need for an Accounting Manager to join our rapidly growing team in Birmingham, AL. This role will play a crucial role as a leader within the organization by bridging the gap between accounting concepts and business operations, providing valuable insights to drive SVP’s financial success. The teammate in this role will lead members of the Accounting and Finance function and will develop and train Senior and Staff level Accountants.

This role will be an integral part of the monthly financial statement process by reviewing accuracy and ensuring Accounting objectives are met by the broader Accounting team, and collaborate with interdepartmental teammates on value adding projects as part of a growing Company.

Responsibilities:

• Be a key driver of accounting department initiatives, including but not limited to continuous accounting, evaluation and testing of new fintech and automation.
• Develop expertise of SVP’s operations and apply and train accounting concepts, standards, financial analysis techniques, and internal control procedures to guide Senior and Staff Accountant teammates.
• Conduct expert analysis of income statement trends and a wide range of accounting and financial information from the P&L and balance sheet.
• Utilize superior attention to detail to review accounts, classifications, and financial data, providing exceptional support to SVP operations.
• Be an exceptional communicator, adapting communication styles when engaging with individuals across all organizational levels, from the C-Suite to Operations Analysts and Hospital Managers.
• Own and apply creative thinking to design and execute innovative analyses that add value to SVP's decision-making processes, while proactively identifying opportunities for process improvement, cost reduction, and risk mitigation within the accounting function.
• Serve as a mentor demonstrating exemplary accounting practices and a strong work ethic. Provide one-on-one coaching and constructive feedback to help individuals identify their strengths and areas for improvement, fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of U.S. GAAP and accounting standard updates to research and interpret technical accounting issues.
• Exhibit outstanding judgment and a strong understanding of return on investment when prioritizing analyses and making recommendations.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree in accounting, finance or a related field
• CPA certification
• 4 + years’ experience in accounting, audit or other relevant professional capacity
• Experience working in retail or healthcare industry preferred
• Blackline experience preferred but not necessary
• Proficient at working in accounting software
• Superior Excel Skills & working with large amounts of data
• Outstanding presentation, reporting and communication skills
• Optimize efficiency and solution-oriented attitude
• Ability to establish priorities, to expertly manage multiple tasks and people, and work independently
