Finance Manager - OpEx | Acorns
Acorns is seeking an exceptional Finance Manager to lead the Operating Expense function, including short-term and long-term forecasting, management reporting, plan vs actual analyses, and strategic initiatives for driving cost savings. This person will provide tactical and strategic insights and analysis to drive business decisions. This role will work directly with the VP of Finance as well as teams throughout the organization, including product, engineering, marketing, and operations. This is a high visibility role, with regular meetings with our executive team members, including our Global President/CFO, CTO, COO, and CMO. We are looking for a passionate and motivated individual with a strong sense of ownership that will add tremendous value to the company.
This role has the option to be remote or based in our Irvine, CA, or New York, NY offices.
Within 1 month, you will:
Get introduced to the organization, especially the business partners that you will work closely with
Develop a deep understanding of the product, business model, and financials
Shadow the Finance & Accounting Team during the monthly close and management reporting process
Within 3 months, you will:
Manage the Operating Expenses monthly closing process for management reporting and plan to actual analyses
Compare financial forecasts and budgets to actual financial performance, interpret results and variances, and give guidance on necessary course corrections
Serve as a key stakeholder in the strategic planning process and quantify company goals and investment opportunities
Partner with business leads to translate strategic initiatives and operational goals into a financial outlook
Work closely with department heads and business leads to provide transparency and insights into the financial performance of their business units
Assist in other ad-hoc analysis and presentation requests
Within 6 months, you will:
Spearhead annual budgeting process and support the development of annual operating plans, budgets, and forecasts
Lead the monthly dashboard reviews with key stakeholders, including C-level executives
Develop efficient cost management and financial reporting processes that help us to scale our business profitably
Monitor cost adherence to the approved plan and provide recommendations that improve profitability, operating efficiency and effectiveness. Ensure that functional departments spending aligns with company strategy and budgets
Help drive business decisions by providing actionable financial reporting on a regular and ad-hoc basis
Drive evaluation of major Operating Expense categories for cost efficiencies and strategic decision making
What you will bring to Acorns:
Minimum five (5) years of relevant experience (corporate finance, investment banking, management consulting, private equity), with a stronger weighting towards corporate finance roles within a dynamic operating company
Bachelors in Finance or Accounting or equivalent discipline a must; CPA, CFA or MBA is a plus
Experience integrating systems, especially with Workday
Relevant financial planning and budgeting experience within a high-growth company a plus
Must possess excellent analytical, financial modeling and presentation skills with the ability to analyze raw data, draw conclusions, and develop actionable recommendations
Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact well with senior management and communicate effectively in meetings
Must be a self starter, highly motivated, and passionate person who understands the importance of being the lead for the Operating Expense function
Ability and desire to roll up sleeves and be hands-on in an entrepreneurial, fast-paced, high-growth environment

Compensation Information:
The pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between $123,000 and $145,000/year; however, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including equity grants and discretionary cash bonus awards in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
If hired, employee will be in an “at-will position” and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
