Overview:
As Acquisitions Editor, you will be primarily responsible for commissioning content for our academic skill digital products for academic libraries. With a mix of strong commissioning, relationship-building, and project management skills, you will be someone who works both strategically and independently to deliver on signing goals on-time and within budget. With a keen editorial eye, you will assess content for fit with product goals and work with contributors and editors as they complete their work. You will also work effectively across the organization to ensure that communication with relevant departments is productive and content-delivery schedules are achieved.
This position is part of the growing academic and professional skill editorial team at SAGE, working in a dynamic program to significantly increase SAGE’s digital product portfolio for our academic library customers. A successful candidate will represent Editorial both internally and externally (e.g., library customer or faculty calls).
Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities:
Editorial and Acquisitions:

Translate a product vision into an actionable content plan

Responsible for the commissioning of content to meet the academic and other skill needs of higher education students, including text, video, and data content

Recruit a large network of editors and contributors

As needed, edit content to ensure strong fit with strategic product goals

Contribute to the strategic editorial plans for new products in collaboration with the Executive Editor to achieve ambitious growth plans

Negotiate and execute contracts and other agreements with editors, authors, and contributors
-
Deliver content on schedule and on budget, implement commissioning plans effectively and successfully

Collaborate with team members in development and launch of new products
-
Prepare and provide to the Marketing and Sales departments necessary product and competitor information to enable them to formulate effective marketing plans

Work effectively with peers to maximize opportunities for leveraging content from our network of authors, editors, societies

Clearly and effectively communicate SAGE’s vision and product goals to customers and prospective collaborators
Developing Subject and Market Knowledge:

Through market research and conversations with experts, be aware of and highly capable of communicating the evolving needs of students, faculty, librarians and administrators

Develop relationships and build a network of authors and editors

Follow industry news, blogs, and other reports on trends in higher education

Attend conferences and visit university campuses annually, as required
Other Responsibilities:

Meet with and speak to leading academics and other subject matter experts to ensure our digital products are based on market need

Identify opportunities for process efficiencies and work with relevant colleagues to implement solutions
Qualifications & Education:
Any combination equivalent to, but not limited to, the following:

A Bachelor’s degree required
-
5+ years of related experience in an academic/college higher education publishing house

Experience independently commissioning and contracting materials for a higher education audience
- Ability to plan, organize, analyze and establish priorities to achieve results

Ability to work independently within a team-oriented environment

Ability to turn a product vision into an actionable commissioning plan.

Compensation at SAGE is influenced by several factors, including but not limited to skill set, nature and level of experience, qualifications, and other relevant considerations. We anticipate the minimum full-time salary range for this position to be between $64,000 - $75,000. Please note that the compensation details listed in U.S. role postings reflect the base salary only and do not include bonuses or benefits.
