Actuarial Analyst II

UFG is looking for an Actuarial Analyst II to join our team. In this role you will analyze the pricing of new and renewal commercial lines business, develop effective rating programs and recommend strategies in support of business objectives. Through the preparation and performance of actuarial analyses, the Actuarial Analyst II will continue to develop advanced ratemaking skills and build a deeper understanding of insurance concepts.

Responsibilities:

  • Analyze company and industry data to evaluate individual program profitability through the application of actuarial principles and informed judgment and identify opportunities for improved profitability.
  • Participate in the quarterly profitability review process including review of historical financial performance, experience, and rate indication studies to assess rate adequacy.
  • Evaluate, recommend, and implement improvements in the ratemaking process in order to increase consistency, efficiency, and compliance with internal standards.
  • Prepare rate filings using actuarially supported methods and support rating administration.
  • Assist with the development of underwriting rating tools and engines.
  • Participate in special projects as assigned.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in mathematics, actuarial sciences, statistics or related field required.

Certifications/Designations:

  • Employees are expected to participate in continuing education throughout their careers.
  • CAS Foundational Requirements: 3+ CAS exams preferred.

Experience:

  • 2+ years of Actuarial Property/Casualty Experience preferred.

Working Conditions:

  • General Office Environment.
  • If not located within Cedar Rapids area, travel up to 10% travel including overnight stays.

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:

  • Strong working knowledge of actuarial techniques and standards, as well as other business operations including financial, underwriting, legal, statistics, claims, sales, etc.
  • Ability to exercise discretion, apply independent judgment and well-developed critical thinking skills.
  • Expert knowledge of Microsoft Office products including Excel, Power Point, Word.
  • Proficiency with SQL, VBA, data visualization and programming software preferred.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate technical analyses to a non-technical audience.
  • Knowledge of commercial insurance products and general insurance/business knowledge
