ADMIN MGR 1 (Director, Services for International Students and Scholars)

Job Summary

Under the direction of the Assistant Vice Provost, Global Affairs, directs Services for International Students and Scholars (SISS), a service unit that supports and provides services to international scholars, visitors and students, on Davis and Sacramento campus, including the UC Davis Medical Center. SISS provides information on matters related to a wide array of federal immigration and labor regulations, academic procedures, personal adjustment, and career development issues. Services are provided to international students, scholars (including ladder rank faculty), staff and their dependents, as well as campus colleges, schools, and departments that employ international scholars and staff.

RECRUITMENT PERIOD ONE MONTH: Applicants will be screened after two weeks; and then on a weekly basis. The position can be filled prior to the removal date.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Additional Minimum License/Certification:

  • Must be a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident to be in compliance with U.S. Department of Homeland Security and Department of State regulations to function as the campus Responsible Officer (RO) and Principal Designated School Official (PDSO).

Minimum Education/Experience:

  • Minimum of four years of experience working with federal agencies, faculty, staff and students in organizing, managing and providing services to international students, scholars and their dependents in the context of international education at a college or university.
  • Experience understanding and managing highly regulated services in an environment of complex, and sometimes ambiguous, federal laws and regulations where the consequences for error can result in significant loss of research and teaching mission objectives.
  • Experience interpreting and applying federal immigration policies and regulations, and U.S. Department of State policies and procedures relevant to international students and scholars.
  • Progressively responsible leadership experience in areas of administrative resource management, including human resources, budget and finance, technology, facilities planning and administration, policy development and organizational problem solving.
  • Strategic planning and program evaluation experience to provide sound recommendations and examine work processes and organizational structures for development or revision to accommodate change requirements.
  • Experience setting goals and objectives, developing quantifiable measurements, motivating and managing others, and prioritizing workload to meet strict deadlines and requirements.
  • Supervisory experience and skills to recruit, train, evaluate, coach, mentor and motivate staff.

Preferred Education/Experience:

  • Graduate degree.

  • Ability to stay informed of campus, national, and international trends and changes related to the wellbeing of international students and scholars, and to clearly communicate relevant information to appropriate audiences.
  • Ability to represent SISS on campus and to the wider public.
  • Ability to contribute to a diverse workplace through ideas or experience and to support and advance the campus Principles of Community in all activities; ability to abide by the UC Statement of Ethical Values and Standards of Ethical Conduct.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
