Administrative Assistant

The mission of the New York City Police Department is to enhance the quality of life in New York City by working in partnership with the community to enforce the law, preserve peace, protect the people, reduce fear, and maintain order. The NYPD strives to foster a safe and fair city by incorporating Neighborhood Policing into all facets of Department operations and solve the problems that create crime and disorder through an interdependent relationship between the people and its police, and by pioneering strategic innovation.

The Administrative Assistant will be assigned to the Mayor's Office to provide administrative assistance, ensuring that routine projects and activities are adequately implemented. The Administrative Assistant will serve as a central point of contact between internal and external entities. Maintain and manage calendars for senior leadership, which includes scheduling and confirming all appointments, providing daily updated calendar of confirmed events, meetings, press conferences, etc.; Manage and assist in the production of support materials for meetings and functions, schedule rooms/ calls and assist with any required logistics; Conduct research using web resources; Prepare written and verbal responses to phone and mail inquiries; Provide administrative support to staff, as required; Produce memos as needed and support others as needed with projects.

Minimum Qual Requirements

1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or
2. High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or
3. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in "1" above.

Preferred Skills

Bachelor's degree; at least 5 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

  • Excellent communication, writing, research, analytical, organizational, interpersonal, and time-management skills
  • Demonstrated ability to take the initiative, prioritize, pay close attention to detail, work independently and under pressure to meet specific deadlines.
  • Experience supporting the facilitation of multiple complex projects.
  • Comfortable with routinely shifting demands.
  • Ability to maintain a flexible and creative approach to making plans, using resources, and solving problems.

New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment.
