Senior Software Engineer, Backend (Batch Infrastructure)

Affirm is transforming credit to be honest and consumer-friendly, focused on building a reliable and scalable compute platform for batch processing. They seek a skilled Senior Software Engineer to lead backend infrastructure efforts, specifically in batch systems and workflow orchestration on cloud technologies.

Skills

Experience designing and launching backend systems using Python or Kotlin.
Developing highly available distributed systems with AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes.
Building and managing workflow orchestration frameworks like Airflow, Flyte, Prefect, Temporal, or Luigi.
Working knowledge of scaling frameworks such as Spark or Flink on Kubernetes.
Defining technical plans with elegant, extensible designs and writing high-quality, comprehensible code.
Making significant changes safely in large codebases using developed tools and practices.
Strong verbal and written communication skills for global collaboration.

Responsibilities

Own and deliver quarterly goals and lead engineers through open-ended problems.
Collaborate with product management, design, and analytics to define technical constraints and decisions.
Identify and address project, process, technology, or business issues proactively.
Support team operations through metrics creation, monitoring, escalation, and on-call duties.
Cultivate quality standards and ownership culture via code reviews and design standards.
Develop and mentor engineering team members by providing feedback and guidance.

Education

Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent practical experience.
