Senior Software Engineer, Backend (OpenLoop BNPL)

Affirm is reinventing credit to create an honest, friendly payment experience through their OpenLoop BNPL platform. They are seeking a Senior Software Engineer, Backend to lead engineering efforts, deliver quarterly goals, and drive high-quality backend systems that support millions of users in real-time transaction routing.

Skills

Design, develop, and launch backend systems at scale using Python or Kotlin.
Develop highly available distributed systems using AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes.
Experience with payment processing, card networks, or transaction routing is a plus.
Ability to define and execute elegant, extensible technical designs.
Proficient in managing changes in large codebases with proper tools and practices.
Strong verbal and written communication for global collaboration.

Responsibilities

Own and deliver quarterly goals for the engineering team, leading through ambiguity and problem-solving open-ended challenges.
Collaborate with product management, design, and analytics to support product development lifecycle and influence technical decisions.
Identify and lead resolution of project, process, technology, or business issues.
Support operations and availability by creating metrics, monitoring systems, and participating in on-call activities.
Promote a culture of quality and ownership through code review standards, design standards, and internal advocacy.
Develop team talent through feedback, guidance, and exemplary leadership.

Education

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience in a related field.
