Senior Software Engineer, Backend (Streaming)

Affirm is transforming the credit industry by providing honest and transparent buy now, pay later solutions. The Streaming team builds scalable real-time data pipelines using open-source stream processing technologies and drives data infrastructure innovation. We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer with deep expertise in stream processing and distributed systems to lead engineering efforts and collaborate across product and design teams.

Skills

Expertise in Apache Kafka for large-scale event streaming.
Experience with stream processing frameworks like Spark, Flink, Samza, or Beam.
Proficient in programming languages such as Python, Java, or Kotlin.
Familiarity with Apache Iceberg, Snowflake, Glue or Databricks data platforms.
Knowledge of relational and NoSQL databases.
Experience building and operating scalable, highly available infrastructure.

Responsibilities

Own and deliver quarterly team goals while leading engineers through complex problem solving.
Collaborate with product, design, and analytics teams to support product development lifecycle.
Identify and resolve project, process, technology, or business challenges proactively.
Support operational reliability through metrics monitoring and incident management.
Promote a culture of quality and ownership by setting code review and design standards.
Mentor and develop talent on the engineering team.

Education

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience in a related field.
