Identify, set, and defend actuarial and financial assumptions; develop, enhance, and deliver actuarial and financial models that effectively evaluate risk.• Project Management - Basic Can effectively lead projects, including those with cross-functional accountabilities. Highly responsive to dynamic business needs while partnering with other functional or operational areas. Adheres to standards of professional conductEducation & Experience Required• Bachelor's Degree In Mathematics, Business Administration, Statistics, Computer Science, Finance, Accounting, or a related field• Zero to two years of related work experienceOr an equivalent combination of education and experienceTravelLess than or equal to 10%Principal Duties & Responsibilities• Principal Duties & Responsibilities may include (varies by functional area, i.e. pricing, valuation):• Communicates with state insurance departments to resolve issues, answer questions, clarify interpretation of laws, regulations, rate filings, and potential changes in business practices• Gathers information from various systems and departments per actuarial request• Researches, compiles and categorizes data for experience analyses using PC and mainframe platforms and prepares related reports• Prepares schedules of statistics, premiums, reserves, etc.• Performs tasks to support monthly and quarterly financial reporting • Assists with the preparation of Statutory annual statements and other year-end reporting• Researches, plans, organizes, and conducts needed analysis on relevant information to stay abreast of legislative changes in the industry; reviews insurance laws and regulations, and works with team members to determine the impact on Aflac's policies and services; communicates with state insurance departments to resolve issues, answers questions, clarifies interpretation of laws, regulations, rate filings, and potential changes in business practices• Develops appropriate analytical models and reports for special studies using SQL, Excel, and Visual Basic; runs and modifies existing programs such as asset shares, reserve factor development, loss ratio studies, lapse rate studies and company projections• Assists in the development, setting assumptions, and pricing of new products; checks source of data to verify completeness and accuracy• Assists with completing rate filings with state insurance departments; monitors adherence to all applicable regulatory requirements, policies, procedures, and compliance processes to ensure the appropriate control environment is documented and tracked; coordinates with management and actuaries on more complex issues• Performs analysis for rate increases and assists in implementing changes• Assists in developing actuarial memorandums; edits or proofreads draft documents and a variety of other materials/written communications, including difficult, sensitive documents; edits these documents for continuity, grammar, sentence structure, typographical errors, standard format, style, tone, punctuation, abbreviations, capitalization, etc.; makes the necessary changes to ensure standardization of the corporate image, overall document clarity, continuity and effective presentation; develops and implements processes for planning, updating, publishing, and editing communications• Maintains effective and accurate online records, databases, or manual filing systems that provide a quick-reference database for information on department activity and document/correspondence status; collects data for and prepares department productivity reports, statistical reports, and other ad hoc reports• Assists with internal and external audits and statutory examinations.• Performs other duties as requiredTotal RewardsThis compensation range is specific to the job level and takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to: education, experience, licensure, certifications, geographic location, and internal equity. The range has been created in good faith based on information known to Aflac at the time of the posting. Compensation decisions are dependent on the circumstances of each case. This salary range does not include any potential incentive pay or benefits, however, such information will be provided separately when appropriate. The salary range for this position is $35,000 to $80,000.In addition to the base salary, we offer an array of benefits to meet your needs including medical, dental, and vision coverage, prescription drug coverage, health care flexible spending, dependent care flexible spending, Aflac supplemental policies (Accident, Cancer, Critical Illness and Hospital Indemnity offered at no costs to employee), 401(k) plans, annual bonuses, and an opportunity to purchase company stock. On an annual basis, you'll also be offered 11 paid holidays, up to 20 days PTO to be used for any reason, and, if eligible, state mandated sick leave (Washington employees accrue 1 hour sick leave for every 40 hours worked) and other leaves of absence, if eligible, when needed to support your physical, financial, and emotional well-being. Aflac complies with all applicable leave laws, including, but not limited to sick and safe leave, and adoption and parental leave, in all states and localities.
