AWS is looking for a Sr. Mechanical Engineer to become part of a global data center engineering team, responsible for the design and continuous innovation within our rapidly expanding data center footprint. This position can be based out of Seattle, Washington or Herndon, Virginia.

Our Senior Mechanical Engineers take full ownership to design resilient, cost effective mechanical systems. As engineers at Amazon, we are responsible for achieving a world class uptime for our customers. We drive continuous advancements and improvements with our designs, and communicate technical direction to Sr. Management. We seek new ways to enhance the reliability, scalability, and cost effectiveness of our engineering designs. Key job responsibilities
  • Work in a cross-disciplinary setting with ability to influence and drive others.
  • Work has deep and far reaching impact on overall product design/solutions
  • Advises peer engineers and management team.
  • Deep-dive and perform root cause analysis.
  • Make technical trade-offs between short-term project goals and long-term business needs.
  • Develop integrated systems extending the life of data center infrastructure products.
  • Simplify, optimize and lower costs of data center mechanical and associated sub components.
  • Collaborate with internal and external ecosystem partners to design and develop new data center product solutions.
  • Support field engineering and data center operation teams for performing root cause analysis and implementation of corrective actions.
  • Leverage economy of scale through standardization and modularization of data center products.
  • Provide technical subject matter expertise to peers, senior management and partner teams.
  • Develop business justification and narratives to promote new concepts and ideas.
  • Lead key initiatives for the organization while demonstrating complete ownership.
  • Work with global suppliers and manufacturers to specify appropriate mechanical and associated sub components.
  • Provide product design support to other team members.
  • Writing functional specifications, design verification plans, and functional test procedures.

A day in the life
Our team of Technical Program Managers, Product Managers – Technical, Mechanical Engineers, and Principal Engineers work closely to innovate, create, manage, and deliver holistic programs, and ensure products are fully production ready at launch. “Production ready at launch” addresses requirements for a product to be viable for global deployment: approved financials, technical specifications and designs, supplier sourcing and qualification, testing, operations training, and similar requirements.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in mechanical engineering. Will also accept equivalent domain specific technical experience in lieu of a degree.
  • 7+ years experience in data center design and product development/HVAC design/related product development.
  • Thorough understanding and use of principals, theories and concepts in mechanical engineering.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS


  • Deep understanding of data center mechanical systems and cooling control schemes.
  • Prior experience working with an interdisciplinary team to execute product designs from concept to production including specification, design, prototyping, validation and testing.
  • Familiarity of product verification using testing and experience for product certification testing by third party lab.
  • Experience evaluating design, performance and logistical tradeoffs for rack and room level products.
  • Demonstrated understanding of engineering documentation, electrical and mechanical diagrams, and standard operating procedures.
  • Experience designing air- or water-cooled systems for high-heat density applications.
  • Knowledge of industry standards such as ASHRAE, NFPA, ANSI etc.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $128,600/year in our lowest geographic market up to $212,800/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
