Learn more about American UniversityDepartment:Alumni EngagementTime Type:Full timeWork Modality:Hybrid 02 (On Campus 2 days/Week)Union:ExcludedJob Description:Summary:Reporting to the Director of Alumni Engagement, the AssistantDirector of Student and Young Alumni Engagement (ADSYAE) providesvolunteer management, programmatic and administrative support forthe Office of Alumni Relations (OAR), principally throughstudent-alumni and young alumni programming initiatives. incollaboration with the Director to develop goals, set strategies,and recruit and manage volunteers for programming that assists inthe effective transition of current students to alumni citizenship.The ADSYAE creates, develops, and executes initiatives that connectstudents with alumni volunteers to enhance the student experienceand strengthen retention through mentoring, career-related support,and community engagement. The ADSYAE also works with the directorin support of young alumni engagement, particularly the managementof the DC Young Alumni Chapter (YAC). The YAC is made up of a boardof volunteers charged with developing and executing social,cultural, service, and professional events and working with otheraffinity groups to create meaningful programs to enrich the livesof graduates of the last ten years.The ADSYAE may work closely with divisional and cross-divisionalunits including, but not limited to, the Directors of Development,the Office of Campus Life, the Director of Multicultural andAffinity Engagement, the Director of Alumni Outreach for School andCareer Programming, the Associate Director of Regional AlumniOutreach and the AU Alumni Board and chapter leaders to enactprograms and service.Essential Functions:• Lead planning and implementation for current student-alumniprograms including, but not limited to, alumni dinners, alumnispeaker events, welcome week programming, graduation fairs, AUFounders Day activities, a student-alumni newsletter, andgraduating student events. This includes volunteer recruitment,training and stewardship for pertinent programs, event and programmanagement related to this area, and the administrative andmarketing responsibilities for these programs. Collaborate withvolunteers to plan and coordinate student-alumni events. Assess andmarket existing programs and events and seek out possibilities foradditional programs in partnership with other initiatives. Manageall data surrounding student-alumni engagement. Provideadministrative support for student and young alumni programs andvolunteer meetings, including working with vendors and colleaguesto confirm event details; creating nametags, programs, and agendas;updating AU systems for correct contact information; and providinggeneral planning and follow-up support for events.• Advise the DC Young Alumni Chapter. Recruit and retainvolunteers. Lead regular meetings and programmatic planningsessions. Develop and review event proposals. Provide alladministrative, marketing, and communication support to executeevents, including social, athletic, service, holiday, andprofessional development events. Manage all communications, socialmedia and website outlets, budget, giving rates, and general datafor the YACs.• Actively build and maintain a volunteer leadership pipeline.This includes leveraging volunteer recruitment strategies to ensurea robust pool of potential student and young-alumni volunteers,while also working with current volunteers; intentional onboardingand training for volunteers that articulates the possible breadthof the volunteer experience; coding and tracking volunteers in thedatabase and on existing dashboard; and stewardship of current andformer volunteers.• Liaise with campus partners to coordinate alumni engagementthrough student experience affinity-based reunions and senior dayswith athletics. Assist in relationship management efforts betweenthe Office of Campus Life and the Office of Alumni Relations.Liaise with student organization leaders (Student Government, TheEagle, Kennedy Political Union, etc.)• Write, edit, and organize various communication mediums,including relevant Alumni Association web pages, the AlumniUpdate newsletter, the alumni listserv, and any othercommunication vehicles geared towards current students and alumni.Create and send e-mail blasts to constituents about upcoming eventsand future student-alumni initiatives.• Perform other duties to enhance the mission and goals of OARand DAR including all-hands-on-deck programming, data developmentand execution, programming committee support, and event page,email, and web page support.Supervisory Responsibility:• This position reports directly to the Director of AlumniEngagement. This position may supervise student and/or part-timestaff.Position Type/Expected Hours of Work• Full time.• Non-exempt.Salary Range:• $26.47-$32.98 per hour, commensurate with experience.Required Education and Experience:• A minimum of 2-4 years of successful experience in alumni ordonor relations for educational institutions or non-profitorganizations.• At least one-year of experience in volunteer management.• Ability to independently formulate long-range objectives, andmanage varied programs and services.• Ability to set priorities, meet deadlines and workindependently.• Demonstrated organizational and decision-making skills withfollow-up abilities.• Mature and professional attitude, customer/client focus; highlydeveloped interpersonal skills; energetic and detailoriented.• Clear, concise reporting and writing style Computer literacy,particularly MS Word and Excel.Preferred Education and Experience:• Bachelor’s degree or the equivalent in training or experienceis preferred.• Intercultural communication skills or a level of interculturalcompetence preferred.Additional Eligibility Qualifications:• Availability to work some nights and weekends, occasionaldomestic travel may occur.BenefitsAU offers a competitive benefits package including a 200% matchingretirement plan, tuition benefits for full-time staff and theirfamilies, several leadership development certificates, and has beenrecognized by the American Heart Association as a fit-friendlyworksite.
