As a Data Scientist at Amplify, you will join a talented team who seeks empirical answers to crucial questions about Amplify’s products. You’ll play an active role in using data to inform business strategy, product direction, and efficacy. In doing so, you will have an impact on the lives of millions of students across the globe.

Our Data Science team analyzes data generated by tens of millions of students and teachers every year to answer deep questions about how to create engaging and impactful educational experiences. At Amplify, Data Scientists play an active role in improving product design and the business processes which deliver our customers a smooth experience using our products.

  • Impress the toughest customers around – students – by building intelligent activity recommendation systems which challenge students just the right amount.
  • Help teachers plan great lessons by optimizing what instructional recommendations we provide when.
  • Equip passionate content developers with insights about which activities are working well and which need revision.

Some example projects you might work on

  • Build and deploy state-of-the-art machine learning systems for learning prediction which inform reporting, activity recommendation and content revisions.
  • Empower Customer Success Managers by building machine learning pipelines which predict whether a customer is dissatisfied and at risk of churning and recommend what corrective actions can be taken. 
  • Design and analyze experiments to examine the impact of virtual tutoring on student growth trajectories.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Perform data analysis and serve as an analytics expert for stakeholders to enhance the understanding of Amplify’s business and products.
  • Craft data stories and narratives to communicate findings clearly and effectively to stakeholders.
  • Research, develop and deploy machine learning solutions to solve business problems and improve decision-making.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate business needs into data-driven solutions and deliver actionable insights.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of experience in a data science role or a graduate degree in a science or other quantitative field (eg. Computer Science, Economics, Math, Physics, Statistics).
  • Proficiency with statistical methods and when to apply them, e.g. The General Linear Model, latent variable models, Multilevel Regression Models, Multiple Imputation Methods.
  • Expert user of either R or Python for data analysis tasks (data cleaning, manipulation, analysis).
  • Expert user of SQL, especially its use in data analysis tasks.
  • Experience training and evaluating the performance of machine learning models leveraging industry standard libraries like PyTorch, scikit-learn, tidymodels, xGBoost.
  • Experience deploying machine learning models from research environments into production environments like AWS Sagemaker, Databricks or Snowpark ML.
  • Demonstrated application of software development methodology and protocols, including version control and testing.
  • Excellent communication skills in writing and conversation, especially with non-technical partners.
  • Experience driving self-directed projects and working cross-functionally. 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with Snowflake.
  • Experience with container technologies, e.g. Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Background in education or in edtech.

What we offer:

Salary is only one component of the Amplify Total Rewards package, which includes a 401(k) plan, competitive health insurance and mental health options, basic life insurance, paid time off, parental leave, and access to best-in-class development programs. The gross salary range for this role is $101,000 - $128,000. This role is eligible to earn an annual discretionary bonus that rewards individual and company performance.
