Logistics Technician

Overview:

The Logistics Technician is an 8-hour, day-shift position at the Allyn’s Point polystyrene plant in Gales Ferry, Connecticut. The job requires the ability to safely and responsibly perform plant processes using standard operating procedures and work instructions. The job will require the ability to operate powered industrial vehicles (i.e. forklift, manlift), work alongside other members of the Operations team, and perform physically demanding tasks. Additionally, the Logistics Technician will be required to interface with the DCS computer interface and use it to control the process.


Logistics Responsibilities:
  • Following operating discipline, procedures and practices to ensure a safe and efficient operation of assigned duties.
  • Loading finished material into railcars and bulk trucks.
  • Offloading raw materials.
  • Washing and vacuuming railcars.
  • Switching railcars and moving tank trucks.
  • Communicating with transportation providers on issues related to carriers and equipment.
  • Testing product and raw materials using lab instruments.
  • Performing all duties with a high degree of dedication to safety and environmental stewardship.
  • Performing routine operation of basic control systems and devices to monitor levels, temperatures, pressures, flow rates and transfer of products.
  • Using troubleshooting skills to resolve process, product quality, safety, and environmental problems.
  • Controlling, monitoring and adjustment of all control systems and manually operated equipment.
  • Acting as a resource for other Operators and/or Technicians on job tasks and prioritization of work activities.
  • Communicating with transportation providers on issues related to carriers and equipment.
  • Performing tasks assigned per task list.
  • Accurately completing all required paperwork.
  • Working with a high degree of safety awareness and willingness to follow all safety standards.


Job Requirements:
  • High school diploma is required.
  • Must be able to operate forklifts, yard horse semi tractor, person lifts, and railcar mover – on-site training will be provided.
  • Must be able to wear a respirator and work from heights.
  • Must be able to meet the physical demands of the job.


Preferred:
  • Two-year degree or post high school education.
  • Experience in a chemical/manufacturing plant operations.

Other Information:
  • This position is part of the Allyn’s Point manufacturing organization and is located at the Allyn’s Point polystyrene plant in Gales Ferry, Connecticut.
  • Competitive salary, starting at $53,000 annually. Grade and salary level offered to the successful candidate will be appropriate to the job duties and commensurate with the candidate’s experience.
  • Benefits Include: 401k Plan with company match, company sponsored healthcare plans (medical, dental, vision), profit-sharing, and an annual performance award.
  • The work schedule for this position is a 5-day, 40 hours per week position. The successful candidate will be expected to work some overtime.


Relocation is not available with this position.
