Marketing Analytics Lead

About Us | ApexGrowth.co (Apex Growth) is a growth marketing agency.

We provide strategic consulting for technology companies poised for hyper-growth. We specialize in paid media, conversion rate optimization, management consulting, and custom marketing technology implementation.

Scalable growth requires an investment in engineering and data resources. In particular, we help businesses launch major programs with minimal headcount. Companies turn to us, their outsourced growth marketing team, to solve their most pressing issues related to growth.

Our team’s unmatched expertise in growth marketing, engineering, and product is our way of ensuring that our solutions outpace our clients’ internal abilities and provide exceptional value.

Marketing Analytics Lead at Apex Growth

  • Position Type: Fulltime

  • Location: Remote (US-Based)

  • Salary Range (Total Comp): $80-125K base + Bonus

My name is David, one of the Co-Founders of Apex Growth. I am looking for a Marketing Analytics Lead to own our reporting and measurement across our partners.

You’ll work closely with our client success, marketing channel leads, and clients to paint a picture of what performance looks like, what is driving the changes, and what strategies we might implement to grow further.

We are at a unique point in our business where we are beginning to specialize our team by bringing in experts for each of our services. We are looking to hire the best specialists, whether that is in pricing and monetization, paid search, creative strategy, or our other service areas.

You’ll be asked to help our leadership team and clients understand how we’re doing against our targets, forecast future performance, and size the impact of new changes and tests. This will require working across a range of different tools including Google Analytics, Sheets, and external reporting software.

This is not just a reporting only role, you will be asked to dive into the data and help understand the rationale for why changes are occurring. You need to be able to conduct industry research and combine that with first party data to build a cohesive narrative for clients.

You will be asked to develop measurement approaches to difficult problems like how we should evaluate the cost of a new customer, how much incremental value a new channel like Pinterest provides us, or what was the business impact for a recent price increase.

This is not a channel management, data engineer, or people manager role, although you may need to hire people as your program grows. You enjoy getting into the data and have a bias for streamlining your work versus trying to hire to scale your efforts.

ABOUT APEX

Apex was founded by David Mausolf (ex-VP of Growth Marketing at Disney) and Dave Riggs (ex-VP of User Acquisition at Mammoth Media) in 2020. Since the beginning, we have profitably bootstrapped the business to over 7-digits in revenue.

We have had immense success being able to work with a variety of fast-growing brands, including those like Shopify, and 23andMe, among others. Our leadership team includes leaders from Amazon, YouTube, and startups.

Marketing is becoming increasingly difficult for companies due to ongoing changes in platforms, tracking changes, and the sheer amount of data available to leverage. Our partners are increasingly looking for thought partners that can act as an extension of their team while still being able to get their hands dirty.

Our success has been predicated on building long-term partnerships that drive marketing business results but also support clients in other areas that impact performance, including analytics, landing pages, financial planning, and other areas that touch marketing.

WHY THIS ROLE IS UNIQUE

  • Exposure - As the primary lead for Marketing Analytics, you’ll have visibility across all our clients and service lines including Online Marketing and Creative Strategy. You’ll have the opportunity to work on different industries including B2B, B2C, and various challenges they encounter.

  • Drive Insights - One of the powers of analytics is its power to drive decision making. The analysis you do will influence how we invest resources, how to interpret results, and what changes in strategy we should implement.

CAREER PROGRESSION

We believe in having clarity about your potential career progress. We look for candidates who can commit to at least two years at minimum in this role. Afterward, your career can progress into various pathways:

  • Join Our Clients: As an integrated thought partner with our clients, we’ll advocate on your behalf if you’d like to join a current or past client. With a pre-existing working relationship, you’ll have access to top marketing analytics roles that are promoted widely.

  • Build Your Team: You can continue to remain in your current role and as needed, grow your team and scope of clients.

  • Specialize: As you deepen your experience across marketing analytics you may want to further specialize into one area as an individual contributor. This may include creative strategy, online marketing, or a specific client set (i.e.- B2C, B2B).

WHAT YOU'LL DO

In this role, you will own the reporting and measurement of our marketing programs. At a baseline, this includes building reporting, pacing, and forecasting. On a deeper level, it includes being able to tell a story leveraging data. This involves data exploration, ad-hoc report creation, and measuring the success of our marketing efforts.

Types of work in this role you’ll be asked to own:

  • Develop & maintain automated reporting to track client performance across online marketing channels and creative strategy.

  • Build accurate forecasting and pacing models to ensure we are able to stay on track to our client targets.

  • Collaborate with other team members to define their data and analytics needs and turn them into clear, actionable insights that enhance our marketing performance.

  • Dive into marketing data, provide insights on conversion rates, marketing campaign performance, creative performance, and other crucial topics.

  • Develop and optimize business reporting and visualizations that drive marketing decisions and business performance.

  • Collaborate closely with client’s analytics teams and external vendors to ensure we've got all the data we need, accurate, and ready to go.

  • Own measurement testing and analysis (i.e. conversion lift tests, incrementality testing), working closely with online marketing, creative strategy, and client’s analytics team.

  • Lead regular marketing performance meetings with online marketing & creative strategy stakeholders.

  • Ensure channel owners have a clear understanding of their channel & drivers of performance.

WHO YOU WILL WORK WITH

  • David Mausolf (Co-Founder) - You’ll spend a large amount of time working with me on a weekly basis.

  • Maggie Valiunas (VP of Creative Strategy) - Maggie works closely not just on creative strategy but also on our client communication and strategy approach. You’ll need to partner closely with her on building the appropriate narrative.

  • Jennifer Wang (Customer Success) - Jennifer is the glue that ensures we are staying aligned as one team and how we communicate with clients. You will partner with her to identify reporting needs.

  • Cross-Functional Leads - On an ongoing basis, you’ll work closely with our Operations team and other channel team leads.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

  • 5 years of experience working in data analytics

  • Bachelor's degree in economics, statistics, or related quantitative field

  • Proficient in Google Analytics or Adobe Analytics

  • Strong understanding of customer cohorts, return on ad spend (ROAS)

  • Experience with geo-lift and on-platform incrementality testing, conversion lift measurement, multi-touch attribution models and holdout testing

  • Communication skills and storytelling applied to data analysis is essential. You can transform reams of data into digestible insights

  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment

Nice to Haves:

  • Expertise in SQL and working with databases

  • Understanding of lifetime values for B2B/B2B settings and how these figures are calculated
