Applied Technology Scientist

This position involves designing and conducting laboratory experiments for semiconductor applications, generating data for new chemicals for semiconductor processes, maintaining and setting up complex analytical instrumentation, and training others to use them.

Additionally, this role requires providing technical support for scale-up activities and collaborating with marketing to identify opportunities and provide product recommendations. The person in this position will engage with customers, design technical service projects, and ensure professional documentation and presentation of laboratory work in written reports and PowerPoint slides. Staying up to date with technical trends in the semiconductor industry is necessary. Safety training, hazards review and management of change, safe work practices, and compliance with regulations are also important responsibilities.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Conduct laboratory experimentation, generating data and developing characterization methods for materials pertaining to semiconductor processes.
Support customers sampling of new products and setting quality specs that align with customer requirements.
Act as a technical contact for customer inquiries regarding semiconductor market related products.
Take part in curation of existing analytical instruments, as well as installation of new equipment.
Maintaining up to date knowledge of technical trends of semiconductor industry to develop intellectual properties.
Engage with customers to gain insight on their needs as well as identify new opportunities.
Provide technical service projects for customers in the form of documentation and presentation of laboratory work.
Take part in supervision of laboratory work done by other employees assigned to a specific project.
Complete all required safety training, conduct hazards reviews and managements of change, create, and review safe work practices, and ensure that the hazards and regulatory compliances of all raw materials worked with, and New Products developed are understood and communicated

REQUIREMENTS

Education: A Ph.D. degree in Chemistry, Material Science or a related scientific field with 0-1 years of experience, or an MS degree in Chemistry, Material Science or a related scientific field with a minimum of 2 years of experience. Bachelors with 8-10 years relevant experience in Silanes, Inorganic or Organic Metallics (suggestion) Relevant experience in Silanes or Metal Oxide fields is preferred.
Experience in semiconductors, electronics, metal oxide fields, colloidal silica, etching, lithography, deposition, chemical mechanical planarization, wafer processing, Organo metallic synthesis, thin films, front end or back end processes, silanes or surface chemistry of metals and / or inorganic substrates, experience formulating, understanding needed to identify optimal structures for achieving required functional attributes are preferable for this position.
Outstanding practical laboratory skills and a strong commitment to maintaining a safe working environment, as well as to ensuring that Environmental, Health & Safety standards are met, are a necessity.
Experience with and continuing commitment to reading and understanding scientific and patent literature is required.
Technical service experience working with external customers with a track record of success preferred.
Must have excellent communication skills, including presentation skills to deal with internal and external customers
Must have the ability to work independently and with others and motivate others to become independent coworkers.
People skills and leadership attributes are a plus in order to motivate and win acceptance from the direct reports and ability to work in a matrix organization.
The position requires the ability to analyze technical trends in the market and propose projects that would bring Evonik to the forefront of innovation.
Ability to handle multiple projects, customer and other responsibilities in a timely manner.
Expected travel will be about 10% to 25% (primarily domestic travel)
