Aspire Medical Staffing is seeking a competent and reliable Medical Technologist to join our healthcare team at the esteemed VA Illiana Healthcare System (Danville VAMC). In this role, you will be instrumental in performing laboratory tests that are essential for diagnosing and treating various medical conditions.

Your primary responsibilities will include analyzing samples, operating laboratory equipment, and ensuring that all procedures are performed according to safety and quality protocols. You will collaborate with physicians and other healthcare professionals to deliver accurate and timely lab results, ultimately enhancing patient care.

1900 E. Main Street, Danville, IL 61832.

Work Environment:
Danville VA’s Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Service.

Schedule:

  • Laboratory Services hours of operation: 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
  • First Shift: Monday-Friday 8am-4:30pm
  • Second Shift: Monday-Friday 3:30pm-Midnight

Overtime on an as-needed basis

  • Qualifications:
    • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science or a related field. Graduate from a medical technology program accredited by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Science (NAACLS).
    • Certification:
      • Current certification/registration as determined by the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or American Medical Technologist (AMT).
      • shall be certified in Basic Life Support BLS (CPR). Certifications must be obtained or issued by the American Heart Association (AHA), an organization recognized by the AHA, or Military Training Network (MTN) and maintained during their work at the VA.
    • Experience: Minimum one-year experience within the past 5 years.

Duties:

  • Perform a full range of automated and non-automated laboratory procedures in the areas of chemistry, urinalysis, hematology, serology, bacteriology, and immunohematology according to established protocols.
  • Evaluates the suitability of the specimen for analysis, requesting new specimen if determined to be unusable. Prepares specimens for analysis; ensuring that the physiologic states of the specimen properties are maintained.
  • Selects, performs, evaluates, and monitors the performance of test procedures using manual and /or instrumental techniques in accordance with established protocols. Recognizes and reacts to indicators of malfunction; locates and implements corrections.
  • Conducts quality control procedures on equipment, reagents, and products and maintains proper records for quality control reports.
  • Calibrate, standardizes, adjusts and maintains instruments on which trained. Verifies correct instrument operation using established procedures and quality control checks and monitoring. Identifies the cause of common problems and makes simple repairs.
  • Evaluates the validity of data in relation to the test system and accepted assay procedures; correlates quantitative data with patient data (i.e., history, medications) to verify results.
  • Performs additional tests to clarify or confirm abnormal patient results. Recognizes abnormal results that require immediate attention by the physician and reports them directly.
  • Responsible for the generation of laboratory results from the work area into the laboratory computer system
  • Edit and verify results recorded into the computer system.
  • Stock and maintain specialized supplies used in the work area.
  • Accession and receive samples into VA laboratory information system package for in house testing or send outs to reference laboratories.
  • Perform phlebotomy to obtain patient specimens for laboratory testing including blood cultures and compatibility samples.
