Assistant Controller (North America)

APCO, a growing public relations and consulting firm based in Washington, D.C., is seeking an Assistant Controller for North America. Qualifications:

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Highly skilled in math, accounting, and financial processes
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Detail oriented and highly organized
  • Skilled in time management and the ability to prioritize tasks
  • Excellent critical thinking skills
  • Solid understanding of GAAP and applicable regulations

Education, Experience, and Licensing Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or related field
  • At least 3 years’ experience in accounting
  • CPA or CMA preferred but not required

Expected Responsibilities:

  • Contributes to team efforts by accomplishing related tasks as needed
  • Preparing and reviewing financial statements for departments and USA region
  • Delegates accounting tasks to junior accounting staff
  • Coordinates with and prepares reports for Controller, CFO and upper management
  • Monitoring and maintaining internal controls
  • Uses accounting software (Maconomy, Adaptive & Excel) to maintain records and prepare reports
  • Managing aspects of the general ledger
  • Works to reconcile accounting inaccuracies or imbalances
  • Providing monthly, quarterly and year-end analyses
  • Coordinating or assisting with the Budget & Forecast process
  • Researching accounting issues for compliance with generally accepted accounting principles
  • Analyzing and reporting variances
  • Serving as a liaison to external auditors
